Letsgoooo boys!
Why not The Forsberglar?
Go Sens Go!
I was at the game it was too funny watching them get quiet real fast
Forsie!
Is this not proof enough that the Sens best move now is to trade Norris? Grieg , keep in mind I love this guy on this team, but surprised me that he is such a perfect fit on the 2nd line, where now does Norris fit?
Too bad they can't win consistently enough for it to actually mean anything. Bring on next year. Trade Debincat, get a first plus back for him, maybe….
The Leafs and the Habs both sucked this weekend!
Don't get excited boys these guys burn us all the time win 3 lose 4 …..
Beauty vibes! Giroux is the man! Go Sens Go!
We're here for a good time. Not a long time. So have a good time, the sun can't shine every day! Woo!
What a glorious game in Ottawa last night !!! The Ottawa Senators soundly trounced the Habs in a resounding 5-0 shut-out. The Sens have stolen the nickname "the Flying Frenchmen" from the Habs as 4 out of the 5 goals were scored by French-speaking players. Ottawa native Claude Giroux led the trouncing with 2 goals and Mathieu Joseph, Deric Brassard and Alex DeBrincat all had a goal apiece. The Habs fans scurried out of the CTC like cockroaches at the end of the game as they were ashamed of the debacle of their once proud team.
The stats do not fully describe the dominance of the Sens over the Habs. The most telling statistic is the small ice time of 23:10 minutes given to Thomas Chabot. DJ Smith gives more ice time to Chabot when he needs offence. Hence, he rested Chabot as the Sens were in control most of the game. Ottawa had the edge in shots (36/28), blocked shots (20/13), takeaways (6/3), powerplay goals (1/3 to 0/3) and short handed goals (1/0). The Habs led in hits (42/ 25) and giveaways (4/7). The most important statistic is the goaltending statistic with Ottawa posting a perfect 1.000 to Montreal's .886.
The Good
The forwards and Dmen played the game as it should be played; they skated fast as 5 men units and looked like a top notch team. One must not forget that it is easy to look good if you are this year's Habs.
Stay at home Dman Nick Holden had 2 assists.
The special teams units both did well.
Anton Fosberg played one of his best games with Ottawa.
The Bad
By winning the game, Ottawa has reduced its chances of winning the Connor Bedard lottery
My Rant
The scouting department of the Montreal Canadians must have been smoking very good cannabis before the 2018 NHL entry draft as they selected Jesperi Kotkaniemi before Brady Tkachuk. What were they thinking ? It did not take that long before they realize their mistake and traded him to the Carolina Hurricanes. You have to give the devil his due and Pierre Dorion does manage to draft well. He picked 2 stars in the Strudel and Jake Sanderson and a potential 3rd star in Ridley Greig in 2020. The Ottawa draft picks for that year are perhaps amongst the best in NHL history; the future will tell.
Money Puck now says that the Senators have a 11.5 % chance of making the playoffs and a 2.7 % of winning the Connor Bedard lottery. The fate of the Senators rests in the hands of Anton Fosberg. The return of Tyler Motte and Mathieu Joseph allows DJ Smith to insert 3 decent lines and also sit out non-performing players. Austin Watson was scratched last night and the rest will give him a chance to reflect on his past mistakes.
Arber "WiFi" Xhekaj is not only a fan favourite in Montreal, he is probably the most famous rookie in the NHL. There is a rumour that he was undrafted in Junior hockey and in the NHL entry draft simply because no one could pronounce his name correctly. Can you pronounce his name correctly ? Players will sometimes reduce their physicality if they think that it will reduce the chances of fighting a true enforcer. Brady Tkachuk did not play with his usual physicality and that probably is the Xhekaj factor. DJ Smith or the Sens' Army does not want Tkachuk fighting WIFI as they is a good possibility of an injury if those two gladiators fight. However Xhekaj finished the game with a -4, even scoring an "own" goal.
The last 8 game win streak I could find was in the 2009-2010 season, starting with a 2-0 win against the Rangers in NY on January 14, 2010 and ending with a 3-1 home win against the Canucks on February 4th for a total of 11 wins in a row. I think that was the season where Mike Brodeur made his debut.
Grieg is completely nhl ready. He can learn more in the nhl.
