Opening night roster predictions

This would put us around 2 million under the cap. I think that if Timo doesn’t accept 8.5 we have to move him because space gets right quick. On this roster, Luke and Mercer are still on ELC’s and Nemec isn’t even on the roster.

You have to think that Mercer will cost 7 million on an 8 yr deal. Depending on Hughes’ year he might get close to 8. That kinda leads me to think that Hamilton is gone in two-three years.

Still, I think signing Gudas would be worth it. He’s a rough guy, still cheaper than Severson last year, and an absolute maniac. If someone touches Jack or Nico I bet he goes ballistic. At 3.5 we could move him in years 3 also if we need the space.

If Radko Gudas is on this fucking team, I am not rooting for them. Absolute bottom feeding scum.

Money gets tight real quick if you overpay for shit bottom pairing d men

We’re trading out Timo if hes over 8.5 to sign Gudas and have Ned as a 3rd goalie? With Nemec expected to split some games? Also where are you getting 2 million remaining in cap?

Why even bother with a roster projection atm? We have no idea what moves Fitz will make.

I’m getting a cap hit of roughly 78 million with this roster unless I’m missing something.

Edit: Kovy penalty and Cory’s buyout it probably is closer to 81 million.

A minor point, but why bother with Nedjekkovic? Isn’t Nico Daws just as good as the third goalie stored in Utica?

A major point: Though I can see the argument in favor of Gudas on many teams, why spend $3.5 million and term on Gudas when that just blocks Nemec and also going forward would mean getting rid of an existing Devils Dman? There are no Devils Dmen that the Devils would want to unload over the next 24 months. Bahl is not a guy to get rid of. None of them are problem spots on the roster, and you must create space for Nemec.

My only fear of signing Timo long-term is that it could make signing Mercer long-term more difficult. I feel like New Jersey would have to get out of the Palat contract next offseason to make that happen. I just don’t want Mercer going anywhere. To me he has some of the highest upside on the team, outside of Hughes and Nico.

  6. Hamilton has a NMC for the duration of his contract. I highly doubt we could trade him even if we wanted to. He’s likely here for his whole contract.

I don’t see the point in paying 3.5 million for Gudas. Would rather have Smith at 1.1 or Nemec on his ELC. If Nemec isn’t ready (and might not be ready for a good portion of the season), we could sign a Smith-caliber 7th D player for cheap.

We probably get Timo at 9. Shipping him out because he won’t sign at 8.5 when we’re paying Gudas 3.5 is absurd.

Lastly, Holtz needs to make this team. It’s time to give him top 6 minutes with Hughes and see what happens.

I don’t think Mercer gets 7M unless his number continue to improve. He has rfa years for a bridge. Luke will be a few years down the road still to even worry about it.

Clarke over Holtz? I don’t doubt that this might be what the team looks like at the end of the season but you have to have Holtz on the opening day roster.

I actually don’t hate the idea of Radko Gudas for 1 yr. Solid enough and plays in a tempo system. Easy to move if Nemec forces the issue.

Smith, Nemec, or Walsh can play 3RD. I wouldn’t overpay Gudas to take that spot.

You think Mercer is going to cost 7 million for 8? I love him, but no.
