[Friedman] Some other stuff today: sounds like Stanley Cup champion Adin Hill is looking at an extension in Vegas around the 2x$4.9M range. Nothing official yet, though.

If it’s true it kinda feels like an overpay but a tandem of Thompson and Hill for under $6mill per year isn’t terrible. Most likely means we’re definitely going to be priced out of Barbashev though.

I’ll pay the cup tax any day though

  2. LVDucks238

Means Barby is gone unless someone else like Martinez gets moved.

  3. Pia8988

Less concern about talent than durability. Price is fine-ish based on his numbers, and term is short enough to limit risk.

  4. LarsSantiago

Only 2 years at least but hes definitely gotta be consistently good for that to be worth it

  5. VGKtilDead

Not mad at it. Man earned his money and loves Vegas

  6. fellowENT18

I think this is alright for 2 years because that’s how long we’ve got LT on such a team friendly deal. They’ll both be free agents that year and we can re-evaluate who to sign long term at that time. But LT/Hill tandem for like 5.5 mil for a couple years is solid.

  7. Slappamedoo

I think we can all agree we’re always going to love Hilly for, well forever for being our guy in net for a cup win. Absolutely cemented as a VGK legend. But that’s a lot man. Even with short term in the deal, we’re still walking a tightrope with our cap space and this doesn’t help that at all.

  8. Waffles_Remix

Woof. Goodbye Barbie. Actually, Barbs, why not stay for pennies for oooone more cup run? Then go get a 9.5×6 contract somewhere

  9. Steve_Hunts96

    #LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  10. KameMeansTurtle

I love him, he will always be an important guy in the history of the VGK, but I really don’t want to pay that.

  11. iamhootie

Is this sub really saying 2.45/yr is an overpay for one of the biggest factors in us winning a cup? Lol

Edit: I’m dumb. 4.9/yr is probably a touch high but I’d say Hill earned it. 4/yr seemed like the sweet spot but I’ll take this if it means keeping the Hill/Thompson duo. Barby was gone anyway.

  12. iulichik

This is just telling me that Lehner is not playing next season or ever at all…. So his money is kind of replaced by this contract. Can’t argue that Hill deserves this tbh

  13. warmachine2412

I feel like we can do that AND keep Barbie if we can lose pandas contract. I hear Philly is a possibility for cap dumps? Let’s make this happen

  14. shadownet97

AAV I’m not too thrilled about. I love the term though.

  15. TheSlipperyFlamingo

I think this is fair. Basically means we’re paying Hill just under the amount that Lehner will, assumedly free up when he goes to LTIR again. Leaves us what, $4.4mil to figure out Barbashev, Howden, Pachal, and Dorofeyev. Gonna be tough to get Barbie back since the others are RFAs and can fit pretty easily.

  16. appledatsyuk

Shocked at how negative y’all are over this. It’s a 2 year deal and the cap is supposed to jump massively. He just won a Stanley and is 27. How is this a bad deal?

  17. Merkkin

Ehh little high but 2 years makes it palatable. LT needs someone to back him up, and hill wants to come back here and helped us win the cup. I would be happy to have him back for that.

  18. jerkeejoe

I like the idea of moving Martinez to try to keep Hill and Barby, but I doubt it happens.

  19. CDROMantics

Hill/Thompson goalie tandem for the next two years for roughly $5.6m a year? I like it.

Won’t be able to retain Barby, but keeping them both was kind of a pip dream to begin with — and I’d rather have Hill personally.

  20. I dont care about the money, HILL IS STAYING LETS FUCKING GO

  21. HauntMe1973

Just hope he doesn’t pull a Binnington, one and done

  22. friskyjude

Everyone saying that’s too much is crazy. With Thompson locked up for the same duration at a hair above league minimum, we would have a great tandem for less than 6 million. That’s great value, especially in the upcoming cap landscape

  23. YukiTsunodasTire

The cuuup tax, the cuuuup tax. Ya gotta pay the cup tax every time you’re winnin’, when lord Stanley comes around money better be gettin’, the rules are the rules and the facts are the facts when you’re Stanley cup champs, ya gotta pay the tax!

  24. Bigedmond

There are some really bad takes here. The cap is going up next season, but Marchy, Stephenson, Martinez, and others contract expire next season. So the idea of, this gets us to a point when the cap gets bigger is completely ignoring the fact that we have other players to sign with that extra cap and they are going to be sue pay raises too. You think Marchy is going to resign for less then 6.5 a year after willing the Conn? Martinez may retire but Stephenson isn’t, and he’ll be for a raise. Thompson isn’t resigning for less than 3.5. So where is all this cap space you guys are talking about?

  25. TiredReader87

That’s pretty fair given where he took them

  26. jurkajurka

    I don’t think VGK can afford that…

  27. Eshkoshka81

    3.5 – 4 million
But 4.9 if you help us win a cup and that Adin did. I am totally cool with this. Get that champion his money!

  28. crappy_throwaway_one

    Massive overpay. Hope I’m wrong.

  29. UltSomnia

I’m surprisedthat Hill doesn’t want more years. Id prefer a longer term at a lower AAV if I were him

  30. spddemonvr4

Hill is not worth that. The should let him walk. He hasn’t played more than some 20 games a season… And eats up too much cap space at this rate.

  31. thecore762

Have to keep Hill. He was a beast! You need a great goalie in the playoffs.

I’d love to be able to keep Barbashev because he was also a beast and his toughness helped us. It’s gonna be hard to keep this team together.

  32. TimsAFK

Thompson being on unders really helps make this happen, and the term looks right to me. Good deal for both parties here, rewards the guy that sealed the deal but won’t risk costing Thompson his payday when it comes.

  33. BeingaDadisHard24

    He earned it.
I don’t think the Knight’s win, the cup with out him.
Isn’t that one save going down as a top 10 all time, .
    Let the Man get paid.
Let him retire here some day.
VGK Hall of Fame maybe some day

  34. SuperCake61

I wanted Hill to re-sign, but i was also totally fine with letting him walk as well.

This is just because as long as the Knights play their game, i really don’t think the goalie matters that much. You just need to have a goalie that is able to make the saves he should and some that he shouldn’t.

But i get the Knights wanting to sign the goalie that helped the team win the cup.

Would rather have kept Barby though, but realize that might of been impossible even if Hill didn’t re-sign. Sure wingers are easy to come by, but who knows if those wingers will have good chemistry with the players they play with.

  35. KrakenWize

I think this is a fair deal for LT and Hill tandem. Would love to keep Barbie but we have depth there in some younger guys.

  36. Eatabulletnow

Anyone saying 4.9M aav is too much is crazy. Bob makes 10M aav. Is Hill not worth half of a Bob?
