I can't see Bo re-signing with the Islanders for 8 for 8 at market. And the Canuck fans just lost their captain.
Like with all trades of this type, the team with the best player right now wins short term, and that's the NYI. As a Canucks fan, I like it for Vancouver, though. I wish we could have got a D-man, but I hope the team isn't finished moving contracts out. Long term, we'll see what happens. Again, these trades are all the same. We won't know the long term effects for a while. If the Canucks were looking to get better immediately, they were dreaming. That's not how this works. They got 2 good young players (one might be a bit overpaid) and a 1st. They probably should have pressed to remove that top 13 protected garbage, but it is what it is. He could just be a rental. Again, we won't know for a while whether this trade works for either team. On paper, as of right now, NYI got the best player. So they should be excited about that, especially if Lou can resign him for a reasonable amount. They want to make the playoffs this year, and the Canucks want to rebuild. So on that level, if both teams get their desired effect, perfect.
Play Vancouver next week…should be interesting
Hi Gil! Ty guys for the impromptu show! Guys, if we have to flip Horvat at the TDL—we lost this deal big time. Look boys—this wasn’t my 1st choice—it was Meir——however—we’ve picked up an excellent 2 way player—career year 31 g—point per game—power play guy—face off guy and an experienced captain. This 27 year old is a real excellent player. I’ll go on the limb here—-we will catch the Caps and hold off the Sabres for that last spot! However—if he’s in another uniform come season, this is abysmal and catastrophic for us——can’t give up so much without a deal in place. 25% retained by the Canucks——protected number 1—-I mean not awful but it’s alot for a rental. Ok to me—this is an impasse—push a number 2 and Holstrom or Whally—-and a defensive prospect not named Bolduc, for Tarasenko. I mean ya went for a swim with the sharks—-why not catch one. They can still recoup at the TDL—-My feeling is Lou did something so uncharted that I feel he’s gonna break the bank——wants a Cup at all costs to say “You doubted me, now bow before me Islander fans——off to Hawaii I go for a few years!! Don’t think he’s done. Now that he’s done something outrageous!! I’m happy but I’ve bitten off a few nails and it’s not Monday! Ps—-anyone but Dufor unless it’s Meir!! Are ya all in or out? We finally have an answer boys. Finally.
Canucks fan here. Love Bo. Great player with great work ethic and character. You guys will love him. Only thing I’d say is up until this year he was a good scorer but not great. We saw him as a very solid second line centre. But this year, my god he’s been unreal. Hope you guys make the playoffs. With local boy barzal and horvat, youll be supported by lots of us.
Nyi sucks canucks winning the cup 😆 lol
Im split on this.
Hey Ross, who is this Attu Rattu you keep talking about… The Canucks aquired a player named Aatu Raty from the Islanders and you SHOULD be familiar with pronounciation of his name.
IT IS GOING TO BE A BRUTAL FEW YEARS FOR "ANYONE" WHO IS STILL CHEERING FOR THE CANUCKS.
Great trade but sad to see Raty go. Hovart plays center so just wondering if the switch to wing is going to be a smooth transition
Horvat is not a winger
JT Miller and Horvat gunna scrap on Feb 9th.
WOW i just got word of this one. WOW silent lou finally wakes up. I like the deal IF isles can re-sign horvat. Now the question is who goes to wing, horvat or barzal? Either way this strengthens barzal line. I'd say horvat stays at center because he was hyped as a good two way center coming into draft. Horvat is like a god to london knights. Scored the ohl game winning goal with one second left in gm. 7 to give knights 2013 ohl title vs. schiefelle/eckblad and barrie colts. It was on the same night as b's improbable third period comeback from down 4-1 to win in ot vs. laffs in gm. 7. And when lou made that deal at '13 draft trading nj first for corey schneider canucks took horvat. Now lou has both of them. Beau was maddening inconsistent and needed to go. Raty-lets face it we don't know his ceiling yet. He's over valued being he is isles top prospect yet in prospect rankings he was ranked 96th. If isles can make a playoff push now and not fall apart that first will be later first. And some are wondering why canucks made this deal six weeks before tdl. I'm sure pres. jr had some say in this and everyone knows jr loves to deal. Probably jumped on this now because other teams rumoured in on horvat like av's and b's have bad prospect pools and their firsts will be late first. Plus canucks are going into complete re-build mode and still have boeser out there. I had wondered if isles playing raty past elc was maybe a showcase for a trade.
Of course being realistic this trade still doesn't make isles a contender but it helps. This means isles are out of meier trade with sj wanting a first and two grade a prospects plus meier wanting $9 mill. per. And this gives lou time to scour the trade market up to tdl and see what is out there. If he could pick up another forward or some pop on the d end then i like this team. They wont get kane. But vt could still be dealt. Blues probably not getting what they want for vt as a ufa. Plus blues still have o'reilly the ufa too. So at least lou has finally made a pre-emptive strike and still has varly, mayfield (St. L native) as ufa's he could move. Plus wahlstrom. Deal him before his trade value is 0. Isles need goal production and can't wait forever on OW. And maybe some team after ditching payroll will need a contract to get over cap minimum and will give isles a third for bailey to buy some cap $$$'s. Isles need two top six upgrades. They just got one. Now get horvath signed lou. Don't let this be another vanek type deal. They say the team that gets the best player wins a trade. And lou has no interest in a re-build.
As a Canucks fan and Horvat fan…. I LOVE THIS TRADE. This is exactly what the Canucks needed to do to start moving the team towards a rebuild. They SHOULD have started this last year but….
Horvat is fat n lazy. But he has good shot faceoffs strong team guy good off the rush underrated fighter. But has mediocore passing n puck control.
Its hard to say who won this trade until Bo signs with the Islanders, and how Raty turns out, and who the Canucks get for the 1st round draft pick. Bo is loved in Vancouver by a lot of people, as he is a great leader, always works hard, one of the best face off men in the NHL. You guy will love him in Long Island.
Always cheered for Beau, but after 7 years i think he is what he is. Sad to see him go, but excited about the new Bo joining.
Isles clearly got the better deal, Horvat isn't going to lead them in points but he's a great leader in the locker room and on the ice. Trevor Linden, Mike Peca, maybe a bit of Joe Sakic, that's who he reminds me of. The Canucks are definitely going to start rebuilding next season, this trade was just the first of many big changes to come.
This is a shame , Rutherford fires Bruce . Then tanks by this trade! Rutherford and the Canucks have no clue what they are doing . They took back 5 million in cap. I am an glad Horvat got out of Vancouver ! No Clear Vision by Rutherford ! The winner could be the Islanders if Horvat gets them to the playoffs. More Revenue and happier fans.
Anthony Beauvillier, 25 – Would have been better off with a second rd draft pick
Aatu Raty, 20 – Good
Conditional 2023 first-round pick – Good
I still think kane is the apple of lou's eye. Imagine kane, barzal, horvat as your top line?
Horvat trade analysis 🧐
Like Dr. Fronkensteen performing a H♥️rt transplant from parts unknown.
M O N S T E R T R A D E 👎🏻
I'd say currently Isles have won it . They are closer to the cup this year.
Garbage noobs show
8×8 seems too long.
50 year Canucks fan here…. You guys won this Trade by a long shot. Bo was a rock in Vancouver his whole career…by the way he's more than healthy….Can't remember a single major injury or missed games…..His nickname here in Vancouver was " Bull Horvat"….the guy is strong on the ice and in the locker room….he never says quit ( 4th in goals this year so far)…..now an Islanders fan because he went there…..Give 'em hell Bo !
This trade is going to be terrible for the isles unless they flip him for something better.
Either he walks or you sign him to a bad contract. He turned down 7×7 from the place he wanted to stay. Unless he was lying about that
He wants max dollars as if he’s a 40 goal scorer you will end up overpaying him as on a normal team he’s a 20-25 goal scorer. his goal totals have been inflated in the last 12 months playing on a team that doesn’t play defense that has a good PP.
you’d be lucky to get more then 2 years of value on the deal before he declines.
Why I'm split? He's a free agent this summer, he's a center, we gave up our 1st and Raty. Does anyone think Lou is going to let him walk? Lou doesn't want to look foolish so he's gonna overpay. Horvat will get Barzal money. Watch. We also have no idea if he'll mesh with 13. Can Horvat skate? With speed? We all know and seen that if you can't keep up with 13, (Palms) all teams need to do to beat us is contain 13. Now we have to have 13 play on the wing, we have no idea if that'll work, so its another unknown. Next, we don't even have enough forwards to fill spots! Ok, with Horvat, we just make the cut, what are the chances we beat Boston or Carolina in the 1st round? I'll tell you, it's not good. This feels like we'll be middle pack team, 7th or 8th seed, and getting our asses handed to us until we age out with no good prospects to fill the roster. It feels like he made the trade just to make a trade. The writing was on the wall, we needed to forfeit this season, stock up on high picks by trading Nelson for a first and a player, Mayfield for a 1st maybe 2nd, Varly for a 1st, and Parise for either a 2nd or young speedy forward. Go into the summer and draft, package 2 1st to move up, trade or first and 2nd + Dufour to OTT for Dibrincat, pick Varly up on a team friendly deal, hit free agency for Luc-Debois, and if there's cap space left, a 3rd pairing D.
Luc-Debois-Barzal-Dibrincat
Lee-JGP-Palms
Raty-Zeek-Wally
Martin-Fasching-take your pick
Pulock – Dobson
Pelech – Romanov
Aho- free agent guy
That's my lineup
Incoherent drunken rant….I guess Im not for the trade..
