As the #hurricanes work through the final details on an extension with captain Jordan Staal, I’m hearing it’ll be a four-year deal. Expect the AAV to come in at $3M or a little below.

So a 2 to 3 year deal with a buyout year when he wants to retire. Got it.

  2. 4 years Jesus Christ, but the AAV is reasonable. Possible he retires before the deal is even done.

Glad weā€™ve nailed this down, now letā€™s anchor some other guys down too

That AAV is fine for him. Glad to see something getting done.

Longer than I expected but at that AAV Iā€™m happy.

Big win, great price to bring Staal back.

Why you donā€™t panic when you see reports on sites ,they freaking out on the Facebook page when the report came out the other day.

Four years? At high end 3C money? Love the dude, but Oy.

So this is a fun one since Jordan is 34 today and turns 35 in September. If my lawyer wife read the stipulations according to capfriendly correctly, this is a standard contract due to it starting this coming season and the year/season prior he was less than 35 on June 30th. This makes buy out/retirement less issue than before.

This is a potentially interesting contract coming off the second to last remaining lengthy contracts. Staal loves the complicated contracts for sure!

Glad to have the captain back and 3.x million to spend on someone else from his old contract.

I said yesterday that we werenā€™t gonna pay him $6M a season again but Iā€™d be happy with a contract at $2.5M for 2-3 years.

  11. I love him, but he will be highest paid 4c in NHL by year 2.

Iā€™m indifferent at the very, very best.

4 year deal that really isnā€™t a 4 year deal and more like a 2 year deal, I assume

Glad to keep staal around for that cap hit. He is a huge part of our team.

    The lion!
    The witch!
    The captain of this sitch!
4 years to say goodbye and hopefully scratch a Stanley itch!

LMAO now that is a team friendly contract. Holy fuck

Guy wants to go out a Cane and I respect that. Maybe a little high, but you’re paying for more than on-ice performance with Jordo. You’re paying for consistency in team culture and work ethic. You’re paying for a consistent leadership voice and a respected teammate. You’re paying for someone who almost always makes smart decisions and has been the most consistent guy on the draw for the Canes for a few years now. So…yeah…it’s a little steep for what may prove to be some years where his production declines (he’s earned that btw…), but for all the other reasons … I like it! šŸ™‚
