I think both teams can be happy with this trade. Vegas got a solid goal scorer and the Habs got a depth player, a stud + very talented player in Suzuki and a draft pick.

Looking at it with hindsight two years later, Patches plays good hockey for Vegas but Mtl with Tatar on Danault's line and Suzuki & KK's awakening last playoffs, Mtl's future looks bright.
Basically all the "Maybe it will work out for Montreal" said in this video actually did work out for them as soon as the playoffs started.. which couldn't have happened at a better time for the club. All of Canada is going to lose their minds if the Habs make the finals. Except for Leafs fans who will cheer for literally any team over cheering for the Habs, but that's ok though because Montreal loves that.

Edit: Suzuki is Captain, and he looks like he will be better then Pacioretty in terms of points soon because his highest was 67 and Suzuki at 22 has 61 in a season that Montreal finished last.
It's summer 2022 and Vegas traded Pacioretty for basically nothing (just made room in the cap) Mtl. Tatar is gone but Suzuki has a great future amazing player # 1 or 2 center Mtl. Winner of this trade

His contract is worth much more in Vegas. NV has no state income tax and CA is about 13%. So that extra $1 mill so really alot more.
2 season later, Suzuki is set to become a really good player, Tatar bounce back and has more points than Pacioretty. I love this trade as a habs fan
