Yegor Sharangovich and selling low

There has been a lot of smoke around Yegor being a hot trade commodity, and it seems there is a decent chance we see him in a different jersey come opening night. Santa had a poor year, as he was first to admit. Following a very solid 24-22-46 in 21-22, he finished this past season with just 30 points, found himself struggling to stay in the lineup, and made fewer of those solid defensive plays we have become accustomed to.

He is an RFA and probably looking to get a 3-4 year deal i would guess the AAV starts with a 3 if its a shorter deal, be surprised if anyone gave him more than 4. Fitz isnt shy about making moves and I have no doubt he will trade Yegor without hesitation if a player he likes becomes available.

Hes 25 years old and has shown an above average NHL shot, above average penalty killing and defensive awareness, and the ability to play different roles around the lineup. My question to you is, should we be trading Yegor now? Would it make more sense to sign him to a 1-2 year deal and see if he becomes a mainstay or increases his trade value?

If he is traded what do you realistically expect the return to be? If yegor is packaged with other picks and prospects to swing big at a Tom Wilson, or one of the fleeing Jets, or any player we would ideally slot into the top 6 i think it will be more well received then if we make a change of scenery on both sides type of trade, or offload him for a mid pick and cap space.

What do you think? Do you want Shara to stay? Or do you support losing that [Christmastime content](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUnkJfOGjOo&t=1s) and Ham the bird references?

It all depends on what else the front office has planned. Yegor’s value may be low, but it is also a shit UFA class and plenty of GMs need to make a splash (see Severson’s term and value from CBJ).

If there is an intriguing wing FA who really wants to sign here or Fitz is confident that a Tyce Thompson can make the jump, they might be able to get something decent from a team struggling on the PK (like Montreal or Buffalo)

ideally it would be best to sign him for another few years however he might be asking for a longer deal or asking out (for not getting playing time) / the team might think they have a more impactful forward in the system

Sharangovich is exactly the type of shrewd acquisition this team would have made in the dark years using excess draft capital. The difference now is that we’re on the other side of it and I am not so sure we can pay him.

    On a side note, Tom Wilson and Timo Meier would be terrifying, especially for the Rags (;

He is a very good player, and hilarious as well. I hate to see him go but we have an abundance of speedy/skill forwards. I think that’s why he bounced around the lineup so much, and couldn’t get settled into a role like he said.

I don’t think Shrango is getting much of a raise. I see a 2 year deal around 3 million max and probably less.

My ideal trade is Yegor for Ross Colton, Tampa needs a cheap goal scoring winger on a bridge deal, and the Devils need someone with size. I think Colton is a perfect fit with Jack. His 188 hits would lead the team, but he has skill and was 56% on faceoffs.

Imagine a left side of Timo, Colton, Palat and Foote/Lazar, and the center depth of having Nico, Jack, Haula, McLeod and then Colton taking faceoffs for Jack when needed.

We wouldn’t be sending Yegor to a pit either, he would have fantastic opportunities in Tampa.

I really feel when he gets his man muscles he will become a really great player. I’m not speaking in a hockey guy, throwing hits context; His main weakness from the eye test was simply getting pushed off the puck way too easily – which would of course relate in his stats significantly.

I agree with what a lot of people said in the above comments, if they can keep him for a cheap enough shorter term deal it would be a good move, as his trade value would not likely get down from here – so it would a safe gamble, but if he is part of a big name trade, we definitely have enough in the cupboard to send him packing without looking back.

such a tough call with shango. he’s coming off a discouraging season, but he’s a young player with a 24 goal season on his resume and impressive PK ability. that would generally lead to a high-trade value, but the fact that he was a consistent playoff scratch should give teams pause.

on the other hand, we could REALLY use some cheap depth scoring on this team. 2022 shango would be perfect on this team, but lindy started phasing 2023 shango out.

if lindy doesnt think he’s an every-night player and he won’t settle for a cheap (under 3 mil) contract, i don’t see how he fits in the cap and i should start thinking about a new flair

I really like Shango and was a relatively early fan. But I think we’ve seen that limiting his playing time isn’t getting great results. I think there are plenty of teams who could maybe use him as a 3/2C tweener right now. He performed pretty well as our 2LW, unfortunately we can’t go back in time and trade him so we have to take what we can get at this point if we’re not going to play him.

Unless we can trade in a package for a solid 3rd liner I would want shango back. He seems to struggle with his offensive game sometimes this last year, but he’s useful as a penalty killer and could rotate in and out of the line up to keep the bottom 6 hungry and fresh. I don’t want to just move the guy for the sake of moving him, he has value.

  9. SubElitePerformance

I voted to move on, but not because I want him gone. I just think he’s not good enough to crack our top 6 anymore (more a credit to the growth of the top 6 than a dig at Shango). Devils have high ceiling prospects and are now in a position where they need to maximize ELCs.

He’s worth, at minimum, a second to an emerging team that needs a scorer on their second line.

I really like Shango, but am ok either way here. But I do wonder if his slump-ish year had anything to do with being a new dad. I know that that can take a pretty huge toll. Wherever he ends up, I’m very curious how he’ll play in the next few seasons
