  1. The term is surprising. Armie has made it pretty clear in several interviews that past about 33 years of age, he doesn't like to bank on players' health, especially if their game is as physical as Schenn's. We won't know if this is a good deal until we see what Schenn does for at least 3 or 4 years.

  2. 8 years is a bit long. However, dont we have about 6 more years w Tarasenko?? So the decision will come w Schwartz to keep that line intact.

But w this deal, there are 2 concerns. Are we going to try and sign Pietrangelo?? Will we have $$$ if Binnington turns out to be the real deal and not some 1 year wonder?

  3. As a St. Louisan and Blues fan i think its a great deal. Maybe a bit too long though. I would have hoped for 5 or 6 years.

  4. I think the term is a little long. But you can't beat that cap hit. At least we'll know what we're going into with UFAs this summer!

  5. Cap hit is fine but maybe 2 years too long from a team perspective. Keeps the cap hit $1M lower that way which is good.

  6. "Players do tend to drop in terms of production in their 30's "

    "What??? " ……Ovechkin

Didn't want to do the old "hold my beer" thing.

  7. contract is about 2 years longer than i would like, but our window to win more cups is now for next 4-5 years. if we languish after that in a rebuild its worth it.

  8. Good contract all around, in my opinion. I'm not a Blues fan, but at 4 mil at 35/36, that contract will be a bargain, especially if the cap continues to increase at the rate it has.

  9. If Schenn doesn't produce enough the next two seasons, the Blues could make it so that Seattle takes him in the expansion draft

  10. If he was in the boring NFL or NBA he’d get like 187M for that many years. NFL players are over paid that don’t even play 12 games a season.

  11. I haven’t heard if there was a no movement, or no trade clause, so I’m wondering about that. It’s fairly obvious that Armstrong is in a win it again over the next 4 years mode. Consequently, I suspect it’s going to be brutal to be a Blues fan in the mid-to-late 2020’s. But, that’s a few years off and they’ve already, finally, won one Cup. So, go for it Army. Last, this compensation looks to be typical for a pending UFA of Schenn’s talent level.

  12. Concerned about term. How will his body hold up in 4 years given his physical style of play. Still, Armstrong has a plan. As a Blues fan, I think Army has earned the right to work his plan. Obviously something working…

  13. No problems here even tho it's gonna pay him up to his late 30s. Guys like him are hard workers and you pay those guys and give them loyalty. Steen is a good example. As much as people bitch about Steens contract and how old and slow he is he can still produce when needed. And he accepted his 4th line role and excelled.

  14. As a Blues fan, I'm ecstatic about this. I was thrilled when the Blues signed him, and this is the icing on the cake. Doug Armstrong is making the right moves to put the Blues back in the SC Finals. Kudos to Armstrong, Craig Berube, and all of the Blues! God bless you!

  15. It should also be mentioned that the NTC drops to a modified one with a 15 team list for the final three years of the contract.
