Trading Bedard would be braindead, you might end up with one of the best players of the last 30 years. I wouldn't trade the possibility for Mathews, i wouldn't trade him for Mackinnon and im an Avs fan.
Matthews is so overrated, he is on the decline. Im confused by your argument are you saying Matthews is better than Stamkos or Tavares if you compare their careers because hes not.

Roll the dice with Bedard. He's unproven and could easily be a nothing burger, but chances are he won't be. He's tiny, but the NHL doesn't really hit anymore. He should be decent to great.

People love to say "so-and-so" can't lead a team to the Stanley Cup, and what they mean is "so-and-so can't be the #1 reason this team won the Cup, we're not saying he can't be important or ride the coattails on a Cup team, but he isn't a guy who "you won the Cup because of him". Kessel has 3 Cups playing 3rd line or riding the bench. Eichel didn't win the Cup, Vegak did, and Eichel was maybe the 6th most important player on VeGak.
Austin Matthews is 25 and will be asking for $15M/yr for his contract. Connor Bedard is 18 and will be making ELC $975,000 for 3 years before he can get $10M= a season. If they both will be producing at the same level for the next 6 to 7 years, who would you rather have?

IMO no way is Mathews and Bedard on the same level. Mathews is an elite goal scorer with great hands. Bedard is an elite scorer with elite hands. He will be closer to McD's level then Mathews.
Auston Matthews needs a decade to score 30 playoff goals, Matthews is the most overrated bust in our life time hands down, Seriously the guy only has 1 playoff win in his whole career of professional hockey and that includes his season in Europe when he skipped the OHL, Literally for a guy so fucking good he sure does lose alot doesn't he.
