In many cases, huge contracts only prevent teams from building well-rounded championship teams. ✔️
Sometimes after smoking my bong, I always think my team should get a big contract player. After awhile, I realize build the team with a high quality blue chip players is better in the long run
I think it's time everyone wakes up and realizes Matthews will absolutely be going to free agency. A deal would absolutely be done before July 1st (it won't be) if that wasn't the case.
I’m hopeful that Auston took less on his next contract. I don’t think willy should be the guy to have to take less. If anything it should be Auston or Mitch. Mack makes what? 200k more than mcdavid? And he actually won a cup and all. Auston hasn’t shown he can carry the team through the playoffs. I’d pay him 10 or 10.5 at most next contract

No 2nd TO team until bettman is gone. The second team would be such an insane windfall it would be a black mark on Bettman for standing in the way. He is on cruise control until retirement.
Easy to say let Nylander go, but he is the only one who actually creates his own shot. Marner creates but he doesn’t shoot. The other two guys can shoot but not create. If you are going to be pissed if Nylander gets a $10 million contract, put yourself in his shoes, you know 34 is getting at least $13 if not $14 million, if not more. Let’s remember that he was the only guy who tried to win game 5 against Florida.

People are making this way too compilated. Matthews and Nylander want reasonable numbers for reasonable terms or they don't. If they do sign them. If they don't, trade them for players who want to win a cup in Toronto.
Another team in Toronto would not do well. The second team will never usurp an original 6 team. Just look at the Rangers. How much are the Devils and Islanders worth in comparison. Hamilton should have happened instead of Ottawa. Compensation would have been cheap back then and Tim Hortons would have been corporate owners instead of Melnyk. The problem with hockey is it realis on gate revenues where other pro leagues get big tv contracts. No big contracts coming in the US for hockey. Cap is not going up anytime soon. As there is no competition in Canada for tv rights do you think Rogers are going to pay more next time. Hockey has been a big loss for Rogers. Hockey was a staple for us growing up but very few 20-40 even care about hockey never mind watch it. Hockey is on a downward spiral as the young people can not afford to go to a game never mind pay to watch it on tv which used to be free. In Canada no one has won in 30 years so even the hardcore followers are not following hockey closely anymore. They are just watching the replays.
Austin and Marner are not even worth 10 mill but Willy is definitely worth 8 mill

If I were Brad Treliving I would get the core 4 signed, RO'R, Noel Acciari, Luke Schenn signed, then I would trade Holl, Kerfoot for potential defenceman, forward and Matt Murray for a potential goaltender.
