They shouldn't be overly excited about winning against my Blues they should be ashamed of themselves that it took them two double overtime tied 0-0 when they had a superior team to what we had
Blues hof chopper, pronger hull Gretzky Glenn Anderson oh yeah let's not forget fuhr who got ran the series before, zezel was very good courtnal mactavish those guys are border line, Detroit fedorov Coffey lidstom,Steve y,konstitov would of been oh I forgot Shane Corson and Dino there was some amazing hockey players there,7 top 15 all time? At least,Gretzky hull Coffey chopper,Steve y federov glenn Anderson Chris pronger, nick lidstrom yeah these guys top 20 of the best all time
Imagine these guys with today's rules, hull would probably be a 1000 goal scorer, that guy good shoot the puck from anywhere any angle, between guys legs bar down, when you could still interfere by today's standards,so much has changed, now thing from ovie,he's great and no doubt would have 500 in this era,but his goals would drastically be less
The brilliance of play by play of Gary Thorne is so missed these days. Notice how when Yzerman scores the game winner he says "Score!!! Steve Yzerman, Detroit wins!"…..then silence for a good 30 seconds. That is what great announcers do, allow the emotion of everything that just happened settle in with the viewers. Awesome game that was called by one of the best ever.
The NHL OF THE MID- 1990'S TRULY THE BEST AND MOST TALENTED ERA. I would put "original"-6 right behind it. Today's NHL is far inferior when compared to the nineties. Just look at the rosters back then. Every team had more than a handful of guys that played a long time in the league, and every team .500/84 points or better, had more than just a handful of WORLD CLASS PLAYERS. PRE-KHL..AND PRE- KNEE SLIDING ONLY GOALIES..PRE-SALARY CAP.. FAR SUPERIOR COMPARED TO THE NO-NAMES, OUTSIDE OF A FEW, PLAYING TODAY.
MacTavish rockin it old school, without a helmet. After they made it a rule, they grandfathered it in and he was the last player to play without one. What's even weirder is watching older games where even the goalie isn't wearing a helmet or a mask. It's amazing any of them survived.
This games is one of the more exciting game bye the Blues and Red wings the blues goalie Casey !! He been pretty good it went the distance seven games red wings goalie is ????????? Greszky played on the Blues never knew that wings goalie Mr Osgood and his great saves he made when the blues bombard Osgood goaltending is great Casey going great returning the favor on this scoceless game seven game
Amazing moment, but bad goal to let in…let alone 2OT of game 7.And Detroit got beat by my Avs next round. I think Stevie Y had plenty of moments in all those Cup runs Id pick over that. Similar in 2002,Forsberg missed the entire reg season, came back & led the playoffs in scoring…despite Colorado not even making the Finals-cuz we got destroyed in game 7 of the 2002 WCFs by Detroit. Thats still 1 of the most amazing accomplishments ive seen-but i dont consider it Forsbergs signature moment…we didnt even get to the Finals. Granted the WCFs in 2002 were the de facto Cup Finals,& the same was true in 1996,& 1997.
I also still say 2002 Colorado actually overachieved-even getting to game 7-cuz 2002 Detroit is the best team ive ever seen. Ive only closely followed the nhl since the Avs were born,so im not including teams before 1995. But 2002 Detroit is the best ive seen-like 11 HOFers or something. 2002 Avs had most of the team from 2001 (2nd best team ive ever seen)-but we had lost a few guys, including Bourque. Those 2 teams will probably always be the best teams ive seen-cuz of the salary cap. Even the best cap era teams,(2022 Avs are in the argument)-dont compare to 2002 Detroit or 2001 Colorado-it just isnt possible, with the salary cap.
But as amazing as Yzermans goal was,or Forsberg leading the playoffs in scoring, after sitting all season ,& not making the Finals…I cant call those their signature moments. Forsbergs signature moment is probably the gold winning, shootout goal for Sweden,or his Finals hat trick in 1996. What he did in 2002 was much more amazing, but it didnt lead to a Cup. Same with Yzerman-he had plently of signature moments, that ended in Cups.
The 90s really had the worst hockey ever, all that talent on the ice and only 1 to nothing, really? They should have called more penalties on the lazy defensemen that just hooked and grabed everyone
We’re at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs West Semifinals between the Presidents’ Trophy winner Detroit Red Wings and the St Louis Blues
Look at the score bug in the upper left corner. 81 minutes of hockey has been played and no one has scored.
One of the greatest game 7's in sports history. Still brings a tear to my eyes to watch it. The wings go on to lose to Colorado and that team changes so much before the 97 season. Shanahan, Murphy, Sandstorm, Greg Johnson, Sru Grimson, and Bob Errey come in and the rest is history.

Lots of missed calls both ways, but I seen a lot of interference, and slashes that wasn't called on Detroit
Man both of these Teams were stacked!
When hockey was the greatest sport in the world.
Lol the two dumbasses at 2:34:14 who stood up and turned around in the stands to get on TV probably missed the series winning goal because of it.
The number of slam-dunk Hall of Famers in this game is absurd…
Tough loss for St. Lose It.

Was fortunate as a season ticket holder to have been at the Joe for many great games, this being one of them.
2:34:14 The Goal

This might be the most legendary slapshot…ever.
2:34:07 – Steve Yzerman 2OT Goal
its only the semi finals too

One of the greatest NHL games ever played. Just look at the talent on the ice. Gretzky, Hull, Coffey, Yzerman, Federov, Ciccarelli….
This game killed me as a Blues fan
Keith Primeau … the Greg Oden of the NHL.
I dont think anybody will understand how mad this goal makes me
I never knew that wanye gresky played for st
Louis blues he's my favorite player !!!
one of the best games played.

If Yzerman hadn't have scored that goal, the legendary Wings-Avs rivalry likely would not have been.
Since I was too young in this era (born in 93) I’m not familiar . Did they used to wear solid jerseys on the road and the white jerseys at home?
1:28:02 listen closely and see if you can hear what the fan says
2:15:21 anyone know the name of the song? edit: I was able to Shazam it. It is called "Runaround Sue" by Dion
lgrw!
This is more entertaining than current hockey will ever be
BLUES AND RED WINGS SERIES WAS GREAT IT WENT THE ENTIER DISDASE

2:38:00 sickest view of any goal ever scored
what a job Fedorov did on Gretzky
Spectacular white knuckle win by Detroit, but this 7 game knock down drag out series really took a lot out of Detroit
Why didn’t homie have a helmet?
John Casey ALMOST played a perfect game jeesh! LGRW
this was a hard hitting but CLEAN game love it!

How did we get here?
Let’s rewind…
From UTree’s Blues Legacy of Failure 1967-2019
1996
Alright, you’re going all in this year!
Keenan has all but cloned the 94 Rangers formula of 80s Oilers and early 90s Blackhawk players
He may have gutted the team he started with but you got the fucking Great One at the deadline to help complement the Golden Brett
Now go and get that Cup!
2:34:15
I forgot to ask: how’s that Gretzky trade working out?
Stevie Y. That is all. My all time favorite nhl player
