Pesce

Reports say he’s asking for 6.5 mil average, I think 6 million is fair and 5 is a good deal but 6.5 is a bit rich

The problem is that this year is going to be terrible for the UFA buyers market. You want a top tier D-man, it’s going to cost, and his agent knows it

Hmmm, interesting. Maybe TDA woudn’t be putting Chatfield on his offside after all…Would be a shame to lose Pesce, but I’d also be fine with keeping Skjei. Worst case scenario is we lose both.

That’s top pair money, and while we all sang the song of Skjei-Pesce being top pair quality in the first half of the season, they definitely were not in the second half.

I would have been ok with moving Chatty up to Pesce’s spot, but that can’t happen if TDA is in the lineup. TDA cannot be left alone on third pair with some fill-in partner and he’s miles behind second pair quality defensively.

So now I think we practically have to over pay Pesce.

I love Brett but I’d rather lose him a year too early than a year too late in this market.

    Slavin-Burns

    Skjei-Chatty

Strong UFA/Trade stay at home defender-TDA

If that’s true, then we have a sticky situation here. Hopefully Waddell has his thinking cap on and can get us through this

Pay him especially if we could get 6×6, we’ve got nobody on d locked up after 2024-2025 season if I’m not mistaken. He could easily be a top pairing guy on other teams

When you factor in where the market is going, this isn’t bad for an 8 year max term deal.

6.5 mill will be 2nd pair money in the next 3-4 years. He wants to make sure that he isn’t losing out on money by signing long term which is fair.

You pay him that what will Slavin want

Brett is a “homegrown” boy but that doesn’t mean he wants to take a hometown discount. I think he’s worth $5-6M but that means Slavin is worth $8M.

We have walked away from good players who Dundon and Waddell were asking too much. Pesce is one I’d like for the team to sign, but it’s his right to test the market and see what is out there.

Once we set a price on a player, we don’t seem to move much from it. It’s Toms way or the highway. I don’t want to lose Pesce though.

$6.5 million is a fucking joke for a 2nd posting defenseman.
