We weren’t keeping him. He was on the down swing the past few seasons combined with injuries. Solid gamble for the Sharks though
Not too long ago we were debating who would be the better goaltender between Igor and Blackwood over the next decade.
Man, injuries can just absolutely derail a goalies a promising long

Hopefully a change of scenery does him good. Expectations will be much lower on a rebuilding Sharks team, so maybe he can mentally get back to the Blackwood we used to see early in his career.
Take care Blacky. For a while, I thought he might be our goalie of the future. But hockey’s an unpredictable animal.
After seeing Adin Hill follow Miikka Kiprusoff’s footsteps of going from San Jose 3rd stringer to Cup Final, Fitzy will reacquire Mack sometime in the next year or so and ride the Blackwood Express all the way to glory. 5D chess, motherfuckers!

He was often very good when healthy, which was about as often as snow in San Jose.
I genuinely hope he succeeds in a new market. Sometimes a guy just needs a change of scenery and it’s the best for both parties just to move on.
As a Blackwood Truther I’ll both pour one out for the homie but also admit that he had his chances to regain his form from earlier in his career and just couldn’t maintain the consistency (or health) to stick around.
I’ll still be rooting for him to do well though and hopefully a change of scenery will eventually help him find his game again.
Good luck Blacky. We wanted to love ya, but you never really reached your potential. The vaccine hiccup didn’t help either.
Highlight of his career with us had to be that last minute toe save on the goal line against Boston right? What could have been.
Farewell Mackenzie. I will remember the time I envisioned you as the goalie of our future fondly.
