Gino probably had CTE, but unlike the skilled guys who get it, he knew the risks (to some degree) and the job he signed up for. If you’re an enforcer, your job is to keep players honest and get involved in violent altercations. There are obvious risks associated with that and that’s why enforcers were so beloved before someone decided star players getting concussed made more sense to them. The difference is consent. Enforcers played by a code. You knew the risks and only picked on guys who threatened teammates who didn’t play that way. If you’re a finesse player, you should never be concerned that some reckless idiot is going to target your head. All the league has done is transfer the risk from people who consented to get involved in the rough stuff onto those who didn’t. Pettersson isn’t going to pick a fight with anyone or throw a dirty hit. But he’s a risk because if someone hurts him, as long as it’s “within the rules,” there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
Just an idea – what if we get a upgrade ie like use the 11th w a 5 in 1 – deal to get a great player 5 in 1 deal , say get a great player like Liach ? 2) when trading & getting quality players to minimize injury make sure the player we get is not only skilled & fast but – enough weight ie 200 pounds or better. Anyone under 190 ibs is injury prone.
What exactly is the point of making a story based on conjecture (no tissue study of actual brain) that Gino 'probably' had CTE ?? He had a well known heart condition for years that ultimately ended his life. Until that time he seemed as coherent and sharp as he'd always been. Suggesting that its a blessing that he passed from heart attack vs MAYBE suffering the dementia associated with CTE has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. That take is about as tasteful as – Good thing that obese guy was hit by a car , he may have had diabetes later in life… SMH
