  1. I'm surprised DJ is returning, to be honest.
I thought he ran out of runway at the end of last season.
He had a "good enough" team to get to the playoffs last year and couldn't do it. Part of that is on the players, of course, but you have to put some of it (especially the traditionally slow starts) on him.

  2. The Gauthier Bye I feel like is going to bite us in the ass, he was a solid 3rd liner.

  3. I was very confused about Bedard winning an NHL award before ever being drafted.. is that a new thing?

  4. DJ is back like he should be. He needs to instill some discipline in these guys though. The diving plays, the dogshit flip passes, the lazy stick penalties, the horrendous road trips, the abysmal November, etc all stem from a lack of discipline from the coaches. I'd still like them to bring in a new guy though like NJ did with Brunette last year to bring a fresh perspective and to not let DJ get too comfortable.

  5. WAIT WHAT? Don't we need a goalie and Dylan Ferguson made 47 saves for a 2-1 win in his first NHL start with the Sens. Shouldn't we be keeping him?

  6. DJ and PD both deserve to see this rebuild through. DJ on a very short leash. If it's another slow start he has to go

  7. If you’re giving this guy a short life like that… why bother. Let new guy has training camp to install his philosophy.

  8. Dorion is a terrible drafter/scout anyway. As an organization, we are terrible at developing our drafts. The only players in the history of the organization that was drafted by Ottawa, developed by Ottawa to make HOF.. are Hossa & Alfredsson and both are very boarder line HOFamers.

  9. Wow. Throwing away Gauthier, keeping DJ, messed up the DeBrincat trade from last year, Talbot was a bust, look at Gus in Minnesota now. The "summer of Pierre" is turning into the "snoozer of Pierre". So far, last summer's good signings/trades is now down to Claude Giroux. The Chychrun trade later on was good but it remains to be seen if he can stay healthy. Saw some coyotes fans laughing after online saying "good luck getting more than 50-60 games out of him.". We will see. I'm hopeful that one will work out. He doesn't see any great value in this year's 1st round?
Time for both the GM and coach to go.

  10. It’s not that Dorion actually has a say in hiring a new coach. They are just letting both DJ and Dorion contracts expire.

Look at Torts and St.Louis, the had scraps for teams and they STILL STARTED HOT. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times… Can’t start on time cratered this past season, only 3 points out and the start screwed us. All we needed was 3 games in November…

  11. Not thrilled about keeping DJ. Worried about our defensive play at 5-5. How can you have your second line have the worst +- differential in the league? Take away Batherson and DeBrincat’s PP points and they look even worst.

  12. I hope that DJ Smith will prove me wrong, but I say after looking at the Sens first 17 games and tendency Smith and the Sens had in the previous 2 years. Ottawa will win only 6 or 7 games. With any other coach, Ottawa should win 5 or 6 in October alone. Dorion should have 0 patience for a bad start and if he keeps Smith too long his head should fall too.

  13. 3 years of horrible starts, why wouldn't you bring the same coach back. makes total sense
