Toronto Maple Leafs give update on Keefe, Matthew and Nylander, interested in Karlsson?



Brad Treliving offered some updates on the future of Sheldon Keefe and his plans for a couple of Toronto Maple Leafs stars. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give their thoughts on what Treliving had to say about Keefe returning and his desire to get Auston Matthews and William Nylander’s contracts sorted out. Mike and Dave move on to the latest rumour that the Leafs have checked in on Erik Karlsson and whether it’s a player that makes sense for the Leafs to go after while also going through the deals happening across the NHL.     It's good Treliving decided whether to keep or dump Keefe rather than copy what Raps' Prez Ujiri did with finding a replacement to fired head coach Nick Nurse (take almost 2 months to hire Darko Rajakovic as Nurse's replacement). Hopefully Treliving will trade @ least 1 of AM34, Tavares, Marner and Nylander although whether Treliving will do this is anyone's guess. There is after all not much of a better time to move on from a piece of the core-4 to at least begin to replace players whose contracts expire this month and who Leafs may not be able to re-sign.

    If the Leafs sign Karlsson I'm done. He's horrible defensively…. horrible. There will be a TON more pucks in our net. Worst "take" ever guys….. I'm stunned you brought it up.

    In my humble opinion I believe that Keefe is a good coach who was working for a new age G.M. In Dubas.
    If I remember correctly last season he benched Marner and Matthews and was forced to publicly apologize to them afterwards.
    This will not happen with Treliving.
    These powder puffs will be held accountable and if they want to sulk they will be gone.
    Time to take control of the asylum back from the inmates.
    I welcome it!

    Matthews wants to come in at a number that wins. No team has won with an 11 million dollar player. Vegas was the first team ever to win with a 10 million dollar player. Coming in at 12 or 12.5 isn't really giving the Leafs a chance to win, next year, or even a year or two after. 13 to 13.5… The other players might as well take the Leafs for every penny they can get. They aren't winning anything with Matthews making 13 or more. Has anyone looked at Matthews playoff performance? How could anyone possibly justify making him the highest paid player in the League? How about his performance in games the Leafs can eliminate an opponent? The only good news is it will likely be a short contract and the Leafs will be able to walk away if the injuries get too bad.

    Karlsson, sigh. The perfect summation of what the Leafs don't need more of. Injury prone, defensively useless. He had what, 75 even strength points and managed to finish with what, minus 19, minus 20. For the love of god, let this just be due diligence or someone just ginning up a story.

    Nylander is a one dimensional player. I really hope he can't come to terms with the Leafs and they move on. Imagine if Dubas would have moved him years ago for the big mean minute eating defenseman the Leafs still so desperately need.
