Gosh did I ever breathe a sigh of relief today when I heard the Kings acquired PLD. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great player and I’d love to see him on the Habs, but not this year. It’s too early on in the rebuild and we’d have just wasted 1 or 2 of his absolute primetime years. The Newhook acquisition makes a ton more sense to me …. He’s very young and can grow apace with all the other youngsters we have. I’m a firm believer that guys of a similar young age who can sort of grow into themselves and their game in a stable situation, all together as one, under a patient and nurturing management and coaching regime, can really put themselves in the best possible position to become champions together.

Dubois is clearly a bigger and better player than Newhook right now BUT we don’t know Newhook’s ceiling.
I wouldn’t have minded adding Dubois at all, but as they say we have Dubois at home in the player we would have had to trade in the package to get him, in Kirby Dach.
But looking at this group overall, I woke up this morning feeling like we absolutely need to draft Michkov to eventually put them over the top. First time I’ve felt that way.
