The San Jose Sharks acquire MacKenzie Blackwood from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a 6th-round pick. Start by examining Blackwood’s numbers, why the analytics say something could be there for the Sharks in their quest to find a goalie, and why a trade like this makes sense for San Jose. Next, recap Mike Grier’s media availability, including his thoughts on an Erik Karlsson trade and why the Sharks aren’t going to give him away, if Grier showed his hand on pick #4, and what to expect from San Jose in free agency. Finally, a clip from one of the top draft prospects, Will Smith’s, media availability.

Why do we always get this middle of the road to slightly middle of the road veterans and then unload them after a season?
For a sixth-round pick, I like this trade. Give him a two-year, three mil prove-it deal and if he can stay healthy he is an upgrade over what we had.
Carlsson, Smith or Michkov, we get a top tier talent tomorrow. Excited to see it happen!
Drafting Will Smith or Leo Carlsson is not drafting the “best player available”. Teams need to stop saying that. Everyone knows Michkov is the best player available, yet I have this gut feeling they will pass on him. NHL has always had this bad habit of passing on players for the dumbest reasons IMO. They don’t seem to be changing the status quo either. Teams who take chances and draft these players reap the rewards. Michkov is 💯 a game breaker. They act like we need to draft a C so bad when we will suck the next few years. We will have the chance to draft another C. Idk if we will have the chance to draft another generational talent at 4th. Grier and other GM’s logic just baffles me.
