Devils Acquire Tyler Toffoli From The Flames…Tom Fitzgerald Has Now Assembled a Stacked Top-Six



Tom Fitzgerald was able to strike gold with yet another deal. This time he traded Yegor Sharangovich and a third-round pick to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Tyler Toffoli. The 31-year-old winger is coming off a career year in which he was able to net 73 points. With the addition of Toffoli, the New Jersey Devils now have a stacked top-six unit. Toffoli gets to play alongside the likes of Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Timo Meier.

    Tatar is certainly gone, along with Graves at this point. Saving money by letting them go helps with the contracts that are already getting signed along with Meier's deal, whenever that finally gets announced (hopefully before the weekend). Toffoli can fit anywhere on the top 6 and it's just a matter of seeing who he's got the most chemistry with. He and Meier will be able to figure that out early this season and let the line combinations fall into place as the season rolls on rather than trying to figure this out at the end of a season going into the playoffs like they had to do with Meier. This is going to give them room to really click and turn into a scary offensive unit. I can't wait!

    I’m not at all worried about an extension for TT. Let the season play out and see what happens.

    The Bowers/Walsh trade was more about doing the right thing for Walsh then about getting Bowers. We would need to put him on waivers to send him to the AHL at this training camp and he DEF would have been claimed. He also was never going to break into the big club given our current stacked talent. He will have a chance elsewhere. While I am sad to see him go, I am happy he will have the opportunity.

    Tyler is a good player, but I don't like this deal.
    we are getting 1 year from Tyler, that's it. So whatever he does this year, especially before trade deadline, must be worth RFA Sharangovich and a 3rd.
    I don't like this. it's a rental for top 6. Would rather see bottom 6 good PK guy, or a bottom pait defensive or 2way D for PK and solid minutes.
    Now weofc don't know whether teams were interested in Sharangovich, maybe he did not have that much value, so it was worth it.
    I just think we have some years before be better this year and worse next year if the type of trade

    Love the trade but Toffoli is 100% a rental.. There currently isn’t enough future cap space to afford his next contract which will probably be around 6 million a year. Unless they plan on moving a veteran like Palat, Jonas, Dougie or Marino.
