The Blackhawks selected American center Nick Schmaltz with the 20th pick in the NHL Entry Draft on Friday after trading picks with the San Jose Sharks to get him.
Schmaltz had 18 goals and 45 assists in 55 games with Green Bay of the USHL last season. The 18-year-old from Madison is 6-foot, 174 pounds, and previously played his bantam and midget seasons in Chicago. He’s slated to attend the University of North Dakota next season.
