I’m going to be honest, a little but high on the AAV for my liking, but other than that, happy to have David back!

Seems high. I get he is a center and he played 3C for us but he is clearly a 4th line center and we have Holmberg.

People aren’t going to like it, but this is a great deal despite being a tad high. Cap increases over the next few years makes that moot.

AAV is higher than I would have liked to be honest

  5. SpinningDickTwist

It’s not too much, that’s what a shutdown 3C costs.

    Takes him to age 32

As long as theres no stupid full NTC this is a good deal

  6. CoolBeansMan9

Probably $500k too much I’d say but glad to have him back

  7. JamesCurtis24

Now get me Schenn, Acciari and ROR

  8. paranoiaszn

Well the Treliving era is off to a *start*

  9. dntstpblevin

Would expect a slightly lower AAV given the term. Not particularly good or bad.

Jury still out on Tree until we get clarity on Nylander and AM…

I kinda like this actually. A bit high but Kämpf’s a reliable guy. Hopefully we can pick up a bit more firepower for the bottom 6 in FA

How tf is everyone mad about this? Kampf is so solid defensively and one of the harder working players in the playoffs l and that’s a fair aav..I’m surprised by the anger

About 500K overpaid IMO. I’m content with this deal given we signed Jarnkrok to such a cheap deal

  13. squinla3

A little rich, not thrilled with it but also not the worst with the cap increase over the next few years. It’s what he would have gotten elsewhere so I don’t think it’s an overpayment and I don’t know who you would replace him with in that 3c role based on who is available.

I hope that if they are doing this they have some more confidence in some of the other pieces and there will be more news to follow.

I don’t know why people are surprised by this. He’s a good centre and provides excellent depth defense. He’s getting a $1 mil raise over a 4 year term.

With the cap going up exponentially the next few years this will be peanuts.

Lets bring back all of our shitty players and hope things are different for the 8th straight year!!

People are angry about this?!?!? This is a fantastic deal.

  17. I hate what the cap has done to us as fans. After every signing we’re grabbing for the abacus.

I think ya’ll are overrating a bit. The second you get rid of Kampf, you’re going looking for a player like him at the deadline. The contract isn’t an anchor, they can get out of it, no problem, at pretty much any point.

Kampf is low event. You rarely point the finger at him when the puck goes in the back of the net. He’s only 28, this carries him through him prime. We have cost certainty.

Most of you probably don’t even realize, Kampf was 7th in TOI/GP for forwards on the Leafs. That means he’s playing 3rd line, borderline 2nd line minutes. He leads the team in SH TOI.

As number 1 David Kampf fan I’m ecstatic about this signing. Little high? Eh maybe by like 500k. But he’s solid defensively , wins a lot of faceoffs and is a huge reason our PK has been so good.

    You all need to chill

  20. fancypants55

Everyone saying he’s a 4C. IMO he should be 3C being line matched against top lines. He’s a great shut down centre that should get the toughest minutes.

  21. epicfacej

This is exactly the Matt Martin deal. Feels like at least 500K too much, for 2 years too many. When this team has been capped out for years, you need to avoid deals exactly like this.

To put this further in perspective, we just spent the entirety of the increase in the salary cap on retaining David Kampf…

A lot of Leafs fans are in for a great wakeup call. You think overpaying for superstars like Matthews and Marner is bad? Guess what… Treliving likes to do that for depth guys. This is just the start.
