The ideal scenario for the Boston Bruins at tonight’s NHL Draft would be this…
Don’t let Don Sweeney or Cam Neely anywhere near the microphone or the draft table
The draft is deep, the Bruins & Don Sweeney have no leverage, they have no draft capital to trade and they have few prospects any other NHL team would want or that they could even afford to trade in the first place
Unless the Bruins are willing to move Pastrnak, Marchand, McAvoy or Lindholm, there is no move today that will yield a 1st round pick in return
None of Ullmark, Debursk, Forbort, Reilly, Grzelyck, Carlo or Swayman, the only other guys they would likely try to move, would fetch a 1st round pick in any trade
You could say Ullmark but goalies rarely go for 1st round picks. They aren’t even usually drafted until the 3rd round of after in any NHL draft
The best return for Ullmark in any deal? A 2nd round pick, a “B” level prospect and or a salary cap relief
And of the players they may move, Ullmark’s return is the best they’d receive for any of them
Don Sweeney put the Bruins in a Cap Jail and ZERO leverage position with the entire NHL that is really going to screw them in ways that other NHL GMs won’t have to deal with
And don’t say that was a result of going “all-in” this past year
The Bruins were in Cap Jail going into 2023
The Bruins farm system was rotten going into 2023
The Bruins had already pissed away future draft capital going into 2023

Trading for Orlov, Hathaway and Bertuzzi did nothing to affect next year’s salary cap
Trading for Orlov, Hathaway and Bertuzzi had ZERO impact on their crap farm system (at least yet) because no prospects were moved in those deals
Those deadline deals, where Sweeney pissed away more future draft capital chasing his latest 1st round, game 7, playoff choke
Will only ensure that an already bad farm system will only get that much worse with the Bruins only having 3 picks, in the Top 3 rounds of the next 3 NHL Drafts COMBINED!!!!
Stop letting Don Sweeney off the hook for going “all-in last year. The problems Don Sweeney created for the Bruins ALL EXISTED prior to this year’s trade deadline and his mismanagement last year is only going to ensure those problems get worse

Sweeny also has ensured that making deals will be even more difficult for him than any other GM because the Bruins can’t:
-Retain or take back salary in any potential deal
-Add future draft picks to any potential deal
-Add good prospects to any potential deal
So the ceiling tonight for the NHL Draft will likely be Don Sweeney giving away another valuable asset for nothing (like he did Taylor Hall) so they get a 2nd or 3rd round pick
And I doubt that’s even going to happen
So, enjoy the draft tonight. The Bruins aren’t likely going to do much
And seeing how since 2017 the Bruins draft picks with the most NHL Games are Oscar friggin Steen (26 games in 7 years since being drafted) and Uro Vaakanainen (played 31 NHL games for the Bruins before being traded to ANA where he rots away in the AHL still to this day)
Any of you expecting much from Don Sweeney’s draft class this year probably need to have your heads examined

And the best players the Bruins have produced from the Farm System since 2017 are Oscar F.N. Steen and Vaak, a player no longer in the organization but still leading Bruins defensive draft picks in NHL games played since 2017 as he rots away in the AHL for ANA
Thus, I’m fairly certain whoever Don Sweeney and the Bruins pick in the 3rd round and after. Won’t be playing many games for the Boston Bruins over the course of the next decade
