[Baugh] Colorado sense pick No. 37 in this week’s draft to Tampa Bay, I’m told, in exchange for Ross Colton. The #Avs hold on to both their first-round picks.

Basically a Colton for newhook trade?

Do we have another trade in the chamber you think? I wouldn’t be in the slightest bit surprised if we did

Love this move, especially for the compensation. Newhook just wasn’t good enough for the 2nd line, and lacked the physicality for a Bottom 6 role. Colton can slide in as the 3C or play wing in a pinch, and he brings the physicality they needed.

Still have picks 27 and 31 tonight to help bolster the lackluster prospect pool, or possibly another move?

    In Mac/Sak we trust!

This front office putting on a clinic

Combing the recent moves it’s RFA Alex Newhook for RFA Ross Colton, a 1st and a prospect. That is some fantastic asset management.

I know nothing about this guy, but seems like a bit older and bit larger version of Newhook that can hit. A few years ago we had a large group of fans begging to bulk up and get meaner. RyJo and Colton definitely help with that. Just curious what his contract will be.

    Last season he had 81gp, 32pts, 50PIM, 188hits, 56.1fo%, 56.1cf%

Evolving hockey has him at 4×3.5. Can definitely live with that for JTC-lite (but meaner and more if a net front presence). Worst case he goes to arbitration but I don’t see the Avs doing that

Edit: 4×3.5m is exactly what comphers contract was. Ver very similar production at the same point in their careers (though Colton will be older at time of signing). I predict a little inflation to make it 4×3.7

For all wondering: is Ross Colton better than Alex Newhook?

    Answer: YES

This is a big, physical forward with a shoot first mentality that creates and drives scoring chances. Tampa couldn’t afford to sign long term, so they move him to the Avs for a high 2nd rounder.

This isnt a fleece, but a very well operated trade by Chris, Joe, and Company

Super happy with the asset management from our FO. Upgraded RFA + got a late 1st and a flyer prospect for it.

I knew we were going to use the pick when we got picks yesterday! I really like this move a lot. The front office is filling in our weak points from the Seattle series with the players they’re adding. Colton is aggressive in front of the net, which is something we really need. Good job CMac and Sakic!!

  11. Very nice trade, wonder what he signs for in Colorado.

Was also just browsing through Tampa’s capfriendly page – holy hell do they have work to do still. They have 450k left of cap and only 8 forwards under contract, still need to sign a back-up goalie as well. They have 8 D under contract, have to feel like one of Cernak/Sergachev is on the move very soon so they can fill the rest of the lineup. All the other D either have an NMC, or don’t make enough to make up enough cap space by moving.

Heh! When is the league going to stop dealing with the Avs?

Now this is what I’m talking about. Perfect fit bottom 6 guy for what we like to do. More of that please cmak and throw one more high end top 6 winger in there while you at it.
