The Wild are closing in on hiring their new assistant coach (per Smith/Russo)

From the most recent “What we’re hearing” article on The Athletic [here.](https://theathletic.com/4648882/2023/06/28/wild-draft-free-agency-reaves-duhaime-gustavsson/)

Their “gut” is that the individual will be in their 40’s, have former assistant coaching experience in the NHL and AHL, and will have played in the NHL and (curiously) \*especially\* the AHL, and would run the Wild’s power play.

I think it might be Jason King (59 games in the NHL, 336 in the AHL, assistant coach at St. John’s, Utica, and the last three seasons in Vancouver for 3 different coaches because…Vancouver). He was Vancouver’s power play guy, which was 11th in the league last season, 9th two seasons ago, and 25th in his first year (bubble season).

Russo said on KFAN last hour that they have the coach hired, just waiting for them to sign on the dotted line. Russo thinks he knows but isn’t 100% sure yet. Younger, was an assistant in the NHL last season.
