  1. Capital One Arena is in the heart of D.C. and prime real estate. D.C. Metro (subway) is very good and the arena is close to all the lobbyists and politicians which make teams located in D.C. so valuable. Arlington is only about 5 to 6 miles away from the heart of D.C., but would be an inferior location that may not draw as well.

  2. All these teams want to move to better locations at the expense of taxpayers. Let these owners build stadiums on their own dime.

  3. What's the point of building a new arena? Twenty-five years after it will be built, they're going call it "obsolete".

  4. Both teams, and the Commanders would still be Washington because it’s still the DC Metro Area. The CapWiz arena would be near the new Amazon HQ2 offices in Crystal City south of the Pentagon, now redubbed National Landing. The Commanders are looking at Sterling in Loudoun County, near their current headquarters in Ashburn, Va, or Woodbridge in Prince William County, right off I95 and the worst traffic congestion in the country. The new owners of the Commanders commissioned a report on which jurisdiction would give them the best deal, and Virginia was the recommendation. The problem with the RFK site is that it is currently Federal land and any deal would require a land swap with the DC government. The current administration seems open to it but the previous one was staunchly against it.

  5. If the city does not own the building they are not obligated to make any improvements. Let them go. Cities and governments need to tell these billionaire owners to take a hike. Way past time taxpayers stop subsidizing these stadiums. They are all wealthy enough they can get their own loans and financing. Giants paid for AT&T and 49ers paid for everything except the land, which is why they own "rent". Way past tired of hand outs.

  6. I’d say this resembles more of a Warriors building a new Stadium in San Fransisco instead of continuing to play in Oakland, rather than the Nets moving to Brooklyn from New Jersey. I’d doubt there would be any rebranding or big focus on a “relocating franchise”. Still interesting tho!

  7. Virginia Beach is NOT near D.C. it is HOURS away. It is NOT in Northern Virginia. It is in the MOST southeast corner of the state. Please at least do your research. They are not moving to Virginia Beach 😂😂😂😂

  8. That’s a dumb idea, the arena is literally smack dab in the middle of DC, with easy access to transits and downtown amenities. The sort of thing that nba teams want their arenas to have in these modern times. It’s the reason why, the Nets moved from suburban New Jersey to New York’s second largest borough, it’s the reason why the pistons moved back downtown after playing in the outskirts of suburban Detroit for several decades, and it’s the reason why the warriors moved from Oakland to San Fran.

  9. The issue with the RFK site is that the property is owned by the Federal Government. I’m sure the ownership would not want to deal with that red tape.

  10. Super bad idea, look at how bad the Skins attendance has tanked over the years after moving to Landover. They were getting sellouts almost every season at RFK in DC. They're in prime real estate like somebody was saying in downtown DC. A move to Virginia will not work especially in the long-term, they'll be moving back to DC within 15-20 years from the time they move there. Teams need to stop trying to move to the burbs and stay in their city limits especially if your arena is already downtown, just renovate it a little bit because Capital One Arena is actually not bad looking on the outside or inside. The Caps attendance is really good every season since Ove has been there, why would they even think about moving?

  11. The City Nerd ranked this arena the “best use of urban space” of all of North American sports. The exterior is excellent.

  12. NGL, I really dislike this trend of teams moving out into the suburbs. I think they should stay true to their names and play in the city centres (you know, where people actually want to be). Centralized locations are the way to go imo. I hope they stay in the district.

  13. If you are building in DC area (having lived there) it needs to be by at least two metro lines. Not many people have cars in DC and parking is horrible. Most take public transportation so it definitely needs to be by two lines to help with getting people to and from there.

  14. Capital one arena is beautiful. Went to a game a couple years back. If this guy stepped into a Walmart or Target he would probably scream in digust… what arrogance..

  15. Your lack of geographical knowledge is frustrating at times man. Virginia Beach is nowhere near DC. Why even bring them into the convo?

  16. The Teams will still be called Washington Capitals, Wizards, Commanders(Redskins as many fans hate the current name’s association with Dan Snyder) the reason being is to give context to people outside the Washington DC (DMV) area. DMV stands for Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and Northern Virginia is apart of the greater Washington DC Metro Area, it’s akin to the Redskins back in 1997 leave RFK for FedEx Field as FedEx is located over in Landover MD which is about a half hour to an hour drive from Washington DC. The same would be true if the teams moved to for example to Arlington VA, Sterling VA, or Dulles VA area because I know a lot of people who live in either Virginia or Maryland and commute to work down in Washington DC. In fact that’s what I do for my current job is I commute from Maryland to work in our office here in Northern Virginia which is about 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the Traffic. By the way Northern Virginia side of the I-495 Beltway around Washington DC is awful, because the area has grown a lot in the past 40 years with all new construction 🚧 and everything which is part of the reason why many teams where thinking about moving to Northern Virginia. The main problem with having the Capitals, Wizards, and Commanders (Redskins) move to Northern Virginia is what I hinted at earlier which the traffic is going to be a major problem because there non-stop construction 🚧 all over the area, because of the rapidly growing population within Northern Virginia (NOVA). If you have all the Washington teams’ stadiums in DC it will benefit both the teams, the commuters and the fans as you have the added benefit of the DC Metro system, which for Capital One Arena is in walking distance of Gallery Place/Chinatown Green, Red & Yellow lines Metro Station, The RFK site is in walking distance from Stadium Armory Orange line Metro Station and Nationals Park & Audi Field are in walking distance from the Navy Yard/Ballpark Green line Metro Station.

  17. That is very ridiculous for them to relocation from current location. Capital One Center is fine on its own, i don't see a point to relocate

  18. Another example will be the Golden St. Warriors "relocating" to San Francisco for a new arena after the 2018-2019 season
