  1. Do all these hockey videos inspire you to check out the British ice hockey league in person? Hockey on TV is great, but seeing it live is like nothing else. The British league won't be as good as the NHL or the European leagues, but it's still a local competition you can access, like the soccer and rugby union leagues in America.

  2. Goalie, goaltender, net minder… all of them work (but the last is not very common). Most people use goalie.

  3. If you want to react to the most saves in a playoff game, look up the game 7 highlights from the Flames-Stars series last season, Jake Oettinger stopped 64/66 shots, the 2nd most in a playoff game (or at least game 7) of all time, it was widely considered one of the best playoff series by a goaltender in history

  4. Hockey overtimes in the playoffs are different than the regular season. In the playoffs its sudden death – which means games can go on for a very long time. I believe the record is 5 OT periods which basically means they played 2 and 2/3 games.

In the regular season its a quick 5 minute, 3 on 3 sudden death period followed by a penalty shootout. Used to be 4 on 4 for 5 minutes but the league made the switch a few years back to get more OT goals

  5. At the end of all this, I look forward hearing your impressions of hockey as a sport…. what have you learned? Do you recognize, like your footy, the incredible skill and willpower needed to play at this level?

  6. 2:45 – Not quite. Hockey vernacular tends to leave out the goaltender when counting skaters. Standard play is called 5 on 5, a normal power play is called 5 on 4, a two-man advantage is called 5 on 3, and this case where one team has two in the box and the other one is called 4 on 3. Then there's the rare time when both teams have 2 or more players in the box which gives you a 3 on 3 (teams can be reduced to no more than 3 skaters plus a goalie). NHL's overtime during the regular season is actually 3 on 3 as well. (Side side note, regular season overtime is just one 5-minute period of sudden death played 3 on 3. If no one scores there, the game goes to a 3 round minimum shootout with some funky rules that aren't too important because the broadcasters usually explain them but I will point out that penalties (penalty shots as they're called in hockey) are taken with the puck placed at the center dot and the attacker gets to carry the puck from there breakaway style before shooting. Penalty shots can also be awarded in the run of play but are pretty rare and usually only happen if someone is illegally taken down on a breakaway or some other situation where a penalty occurs during a goal scoring opportunity.)

6:03 – Goaltender or goalie Nick. NOT keeper. 😉 [Edit: Damo got there later.]

10:10 – Yes. All hockey overtimes are sudden death, first goal wins (like a golden goal).

The history made was this was the first ever Stanley Cup Finals game win for the Panthers. They started in 1993 and made the Finals once before in 1996 but got swept by the Colorado Avalanche.

  7. Maybe not a record, but the Panthers are 7 wins 0 losses in overtime this year, which is insane. I could not track it down definitively on google, but it appears the Montreal Canadiens went 10 and 0 in OT in 1993, which is way beyond insane.

  8. Ok, lads , I’m feeling a bit deflated , just a smidge, mind, but deflated nonetheless. This game should’ve been won by my boys but unfortunately it didn’t go that way. However, that being said , you saw games 1-2 and the beat down that was given. The Knights will bounce back Saturday night and take that game , head back home and win the cup in the fortress !!!

  9. damn, the pause on the intermission transition to give your take is nice. i need you boys on the intermission panel on TV

  10. Bobrovsky stole this game from vegas. Credit to Florida, they stay in the fight. But they still play too undisciplined. Too many penalty’s. Florida is still trying to bully vegas and it’s not going to work. I’m standing by my pick, vegas in 6, Eichel wins the conn smythe(playoff mvp). Your terminology for goalies works tho btw. Goalie, keeper, goaltender, it all works. Overtime is sudden death, next goal wins.

  11. Thank you for what you guys are doing. I really enjoy your channel. Hello from Baltimore, Maryland.

  12. These highlight videos always skip the scrums and hits.. Last game Tkachuk had a MASSIVE hit on Eichel.. and this game Takchuk got hit in a similar way, both clean BIG hits.. It really tells the story, because Tkachuk is Floridas heartbeat, and he had to leave the game, and then showed up next period to applauds of the crowd.. You kind of miss these moments

  13. I didn't watch the game but usually a 4 on 3 situation ocurs after 2 guys get coincidental minir penalties, making it 4 on 4 then 1 team commits another penalty to make it 4 on 3.

  14. If you watch the broadcast, Wayne Gretzky is continually saying that Florida is killing themselves with penalties. If they keep them down they have a chance in this series

  15. Come on fellas. Both these teams are full of Canadians. Let’s get a maple leaf up in that room

  16. One thing they didn't show was that both Tkachuk and Montour were briefly out of the game for, what I assume were, minor injuries.
They both scored, and Tkachuk did so after the got injured (big hit in the 1dt period) and he was involved in all 3 goals for Florida.
He's been outstanding this post season.

  17. i wish they showed the physical side of the game on the official NHL chanel. it’s a big part of the sport and yet they hide it all the time..

  18. We VGK fans bathe in the hate. Vegas is a unique place, you don’t really get to see it as a tourist. The misfits mean a lot to us.
