This was such a cool moment and shows how Fitzy is truly a class act. You can see why players want to play for us and him.
In David Poile’s final trade as Nashville’s GM, he has exchanged their 2024 7th round pick with Tom Fitzgerald, the first captain Nashville history, for the Devils 7th rounder in this year’s draft.#NJDevils | #2023NHLDraft pic.twitter.com/WrJXhvsAPD

Pretty cool. Fitzy always walking the walk with his people first mentality.
That was awesome to see something like that
Fitz my have next year’s Jim Gregory Award locked up already.
Classy move by Fitz. Reminds me of when the Devils traded for a 7th rounder to let Marty draft his son years ago.
Awesome moment to have Poile get his final trade and draft pick with his captain and coach from the inaugural Nashville squad in Nashville.
Classy move by Fitzy.
While I don’t actually have any idea what the professional perception of Fitz is, it sure seems like he’s someone who has the respect of his players, his staff, and other GMs. Feels like the combination of him being a former long-time player, the father of a current player and a staff member on a Cup-winning team means that he really knows how to relate to his staff and players. It’s just been such a delightful surprise watching him come in and routinely knock it out of the park.
That said, maybe don’t do the “surprise shoulder massage,” Fitzy. I have never seen someone not flinch from their shoulders suddenly being grabbed at.
But still, very sweet moment.
Fitzy didn’t fool me. If Nashville doesn’t make it to round 2 of the playoffs next year he just swapped for a better pick.
But seriously that was a nice thing to end the Nashville GM’s career on.
