    >Adams certainly tried to make a deal. He said he was calling teams in the top 10 about trying to move up in the order. When no deal got done, the Sabres took Winnipeg Ice forward Zach Benson with the No. 13 pick. After that, Adams was again working the phones.

    >“We worked hard I would say from 21 back to the end we basically made an offer on every one of those picks … to get back into the first round,” Adams said. “It didn’t work. They were strong offers. You know what, I understand. Especially in the first round, there’s a lot of work that goes into these draft picks. You get excited when your pick is coming that this could be the guy that you’ve been working to get. I’m not surprised we weren’t able to do it, but we certainly had a plan and worked at it. It takes two to make a deal.”

Did none of the reporters ask him what players he was trying to trade up for? If I had to guess, they were trying to get back into the first round for Musty

    >[Quentin Musty, picked 26th by San Jose is one of the highest scoring players in the draft despite an early birthdate and has the size and tools to become a top 6 forward at the NHL level. Our model woulda picked him inside the top 10. Fantastic pick by San Jose](https://twitter.com/CMhockey66/status/1674237281148850176)

    >While playing with 2022 Sabres first-rounder Matt Savoie with the Winnipeg Ice, Benson put up 115 points in 75 games this season counting the playoffs. Adams said his scouts have gotten a ton of viewings of the Ice over the last two seasons and they consistently walked away from those games thinking Benson was the best player on the ice.

  2. Sounds like he was trying to pick up Musty or maybe Edstrom there 21-32. I’m surprised Arizona wasn’t willing to trade the #6 pick. Surely they would’ve been able to pick Simashev+But 12 and 13. And I assume they wanted them both, so if But got picked by some other team after they picked Simashev at 6 then I’m sure they wouldn’t have liked the pick, so trading to 13 would’ve gotten rid of that risk as well. Wonder if Michkov was the player they were gunning for in the top10.
