The 2023 NHL Draft is in the books and on today’s Locked On Predators we take a look back at the last two days in Nashville. Nick and Ann share their “one word” to describe the NHL Draft and tell you their favorite moments covering the events of the week. We take a closer look at the eleven new prospects who joined the Predators organization. Barry Trotz said he wants to take some “big swings” when it come to offseason moves – did the Predators embrace that same philosophy at the draft? We tell you which of Nashville’s newest prospects are out of the box choices, what we think the team was looking for when they made those picks, and why it was nearly guaranteed that Trotz would walk away from the draft table with a high draft grade from the fan base. We also discuss what picks like Tanner Molendyk, Kalan Lind, and Dylan MacKinnon tell us about Nashville’s vision for playing “the Predator way”. Finally, we make our last minute free agency predictions as the free agency frenzy begins tomorrow.

I think they attempted to—the draft from my view was a sold B draft. I saw the rumors that Askarov and first round picks were being packaged to try to get to Top 5 but honestly I think that a lot of those clubs that where in the top half of the lottery valued a franchise center more and I don’t blame them. I think Montreal didn’t want to drop all the way to #15 because what’s his name (god bless Carey Price) probably wouldn’t be there. I liked the fact that we traded down and picked up extra picks for next year. I was a little disappointed there was no splash but I think we got good value on the picks we made. We’ll see down the road if Askarov is a guy we’ll be glad we didn’t give up. Loved the potential of the two guys we got in the first. If you look up and down our prospects there is definitely quantity and quality at wing and center we are just missing that one elite level player that can tie a group together. Those guys are hard to get unless you just outright tank.
Thank you Montreal for saving Nashville of their stupidity
