Players are starting to realize the east coast is where it’s at. People don’t understand the toll flying every a few days takes on the body especially of an athlete.
As a Wings fan, I am kinda upset about this… but we didnt really loose anything… just would like Steve to actually make a positive move this off-season but we havent seen anything but these lackluster moves and pics doing not much for the team
Teams should stop giving out long term expensive contracts which they need to buy out later.
The Yamamoto buyout shows how much middle six forwards are getting squeezed right now in contract negotiations.
I think Detroit's game plan is going forward is a physical grinder format. They simply cannot get elite forwards (due to poor lottery results) and have settled on puck possession centers, zippy wingers with acute attack angles to the net, and physical heavy play with the rest of their lines. Kostin fits the bill perfectly for adding a 6' 3" 215 pound bulwark. …………..Imagine this jumbo 3rd line

This is a sure sign that new high level talent is moving into the NHL… 2023 will mark a new era of hockey where Michigans are commonplace and 2-way players are necessary.
Really surprised at the buyout of Yamamoto. To me it seemed like he was a decent addition to replace an outgoing player with a slight upgrade. His contract would have been a little excessive for his expected production but it was only for one year and would have basically been a "prove it" deal from the Wings perspective.

This draft season for the Wings smells about as pleasant as the belly of a TaunTaun.
Wouldnt surprise me if Yamamoto gets claimed on waivers.
As far as the Wings are concerned, they are trying to get bigger. The Y-man is 150 some pounds. Together with Raymond and Berggren, they would be very small and weak on the wing. I would think Edmonton wanted to move him for cap reasons, but didn't have a taker. Detroit agreed to take him with the added cost of Kostin. The goal for Detroit was always Kostin. He will probably be the replacement for Erne. The 1/2 mil buyout is not as significant for Detroit as it would be for Edmonton.
So did Detroit just effectively buy out "Future Considerations"?
With the wings buying out Yamamoto, you'd have to think that means Yzerman has big plans for the offseason given how much cap space they have

Surprised by the Yamamoto buyout this quickly. I've not heard the plan was to sign Kostin and taking Yamamoto was was part of that deal. At least the cap hit is minor and relatively short term
Yzerman got Kostins rights to buyout Yamamoto so Holland could re sign him for less. Friends helping friends out.
As a Wings Fan, I like the moves provided we get Kostin to a reasonable contract extension, like 3×2.5m or something.
SY is saving his cap space for the next 2-3 years of free agency. If you look into the future just a little (seems most wings fans have lost the ability to see beyond being "in the playoffs") You will see that SY is building a team to be a CUP CONTENDER, not a perennial playoff team….Patience young fans.
Send Yammato's back to Edmonton. No matter the team you're traded to, you're there to elevate them. The last thing you need is someone whining about leaving a contender to join a rebuilding team, and that is according to a source close to Yammato I believe was a friend. You don't need that type of locker room presence. Good for Yzerman for buying him out instead
Not surprised by the Wings buyout of Yamamoto. Small middle – bottom six forward who the red wings have way to many players of anyway. Red wings are looking to be tougher to play against and a 5ft 8 player who struggles to stay healthy isn’t in the plans.

Not at all surprised at the Yamamoto buyout. He took way too many needless penalties, could rarely finish, couldn’t win enough puck battles, and didn’t get to the greasy areas often enough due to his size. The resulting player wasn’t worth anything near $3,000,000 a year. The penalties were the big thing for me.
