We have been hearing them for a week or 2 now, and reports are that Fitz isn’t done tweaking this Devils roster just yet!

Not going to lie l, i think this a stupid move. Its a lot of money, he underperformed in the playoffs, we have 2 good goaltednders and one of them was a rookie. I would pass and stick with vitek and schmid. I want to win multiple cups not just one and fall apart.
As much as I would love for us to get a scary goalie, I think Conner is gonna require too much money. Not really sure it’s a good idea to give up prospects. If Conner came down in price then maybe, but I really don’t see him coming down in cost. We managed to lock up a lot of our young talent to long term deals under 9 million.
Only issue that I am concerned about with Hellebuyck is the length of term, I would have to say anything more than 4 years is a hard pass. He obviously is an upgrade but if he begins to decline, he could derail our team before we get started.

I’d like Hellebuyck but only for the right price. His age worries me a bit.
If you can get him for under $9mil per I’d do it. But for V.V. and draft capital, gotta keep Akira. I loved the season Vitek had but there was a pronounced dip in his season and he rebounded well, not great though, until the playoffs. He was terrible in game 1, they all were but he was given a chance to rebound and did not. Had another chance against Carolina and won but was just ok allowing 4 goals. At least Akira either gave up 5 goals or got a shutout. I was floored by the progress Akira made in 1 year, now he’s gotta do it consistently and in the playoffs. Much rather a tandem or Connor and Akira then Vitek and Akira.

If they can afford it and they can come up with a deal. Go for it.
They’d have to take Vanecek in the deal. 3.4 mil freed up and Hellebuyck doesn’t need to sign an extension just yet.
The timeline has been sped up, the goalie carousel won’t cut it anymore if we can land Connor we do it fast as hell and let everything play out. Timo wanted 9.5 mil in a huge extension then ended up taking a little less money because he knows what’s happening and Stanley cups are becoming more of a reality in NJ
Currently I like the tandem between Vtech and Schmid. Vtech struggled in the playoffs but he carried this team. The Devils got into the playoffs BECAUSE of his play. Schmid showed a flash of greatness in the playoffs but what we saw was not enough to make that kind of comment that he is our #1 next season. No way no how. Lets see how he does after a full season before we make that kind of statement. Could he eventually be that player? Sure but he's not there yet. Now of course depending on the cost I would welcome a Hellebuyck but we will have to see. In Fitzy We Trust

We lost 2 goalies this year with blackwood and bernier… So we definitely need another goalie. The question is, do we go for an all star, veteran goalie, or another younger goalie to fill the roster?
Imo, we need a veteran, experienced, consistent goaltender. Its worth the money. Schmid needs a full season to develop, and Vtec is not a playoff goalie. Period.
No. The current tandem is good enough with the defense. Not to mention the offense. Not remotely worth the price.
Unfortunately it won’t happen.
We don’t build a team “conceptually” fitz has been very disciplined in how he constructs this team and I can’t see him getting away from that philosophy.
with the contracts we gave out and with other guys that will need to be resigned (McLeod and bahl) it won’t make sense financially.
We will have to extend Mercer, Hughes, nemec all within the next 3 years and won’t have any big money coming off the books. It’s definitely not worth it if he’s a rental and if he wants more that 6.5 million for 5 years than it’s not worth it, anything more than that will put us over the cap.
Unless they take vitek and palat and holtz is ready to take palat’s spot on the 3rd line than maybe it can work but the problem is the extension, we can’t pay anything even close to 9 million for a 31 year old goalie. As much as I love hellebyuck the time and price to resign him just isn’t right.

Hellebuyck would not sign a short term contract and would demand a cap hit of no less than 8mil AAV.
I don't think the price to attain him from Winnipeg would be all that high.
Goaltending was not a glaring issue last season, that's simply not true. Vanecek was great during the first half of the season and then good for the remainder of the season. Schmid was solid throughout.
In the playoffs Vanecek didn't have a great time but it's an extremely limited sample size. Schmid had some great games against the Rangers and some weak ones against Canes (no goalie would have won any of the blowout losses though).
It's a firm NO on trading for and signing Hellebuyck (who has passed 30 already) to an expensive long term contract (which is the only contract he will sign).
If our goalies underperform next season then yeah, a change in net might be needed.
A terrible rumor. Schmid and Vanecek are great, only get Hellebuyck if Blackwood is gone.
People are idiots if they think Schmid is ready to be the starting goalie next year. Guy is 9-9 with a 2.69 GAA. They are basing this off the fact he saved our asses in the first round of the playoffs thats it. Schmid is still not fully regular season tested. It is different facing different teams every night than it is facing the same team every night.
Hell he's not even fully playoff tested yet. If we can get Hellebuyck we pull the trigger. Schmid can still be a backup and learn from an elite goaltender.
