The Canadiens are working on more deals, from what I’ve been hearing, as well as the possibility of moving down from 5th overall. – David Pagnotta on Twitter
I hope we now turn around and package him and 5th overall pick plus maybe another prospect to the ducks for 2nd overall. Otherwise we gave up too much and this is a L. He needed a good goalie prospect as well and giving up those early picks kills that.
They know they wont get Will Smith. That said, in 3 for years Suzuki, Dach, Newhook eont be their #1,#2,#3. Players will change like all teams, go see Colorado and Vegas, most players are different. Even if they do good, thry might get traded for a ufa or something down the line.
Newhook is a mixed bag. He has a high ceiling on offense and can definitely see a boost with more minutes and 2nd unit PP time. The issues are that he gets bullied physically and can be a liability on defense, and his offense isn't developed enough to make up for it. Your expectations should be an Alex Kerfoot or Tyson Jost with a slightly higher ceiling
I have watched every NHL game Newhook had played in and I'll take those high picks over him any day. Newhook isn't bad as a 3rd or 4th line guy. He had the opportunity to play top 6 this year and he was very disappointing. Good luck to him in Montreal.
Great deal for the habs! This kid has a lot of upside and actually has a really nice floor. Worst case scenerio this guy is a 40-45 point shutdown Center that is a very good 200 foot player! However if this guy hits his upside he’ll be a very good top 6 player that can put up points!
Only time will tell If this is a good trade. A medium risk on both side, if he ends up to his full potential, then Habs win the trade. If he ends up only a 3rd line player, then Avs won the trade. Make sense when you look at the left wing, there is a place for him at LW on 2nd line.
While i don't mind that they traded excess draft capital for Newhook who has potential i really think it would have been better to go after a righthand shot defensman or package the picks to get rid of Gallagher or more realistically Armia/Dvorak for some cap relief

Not sure it's worth it, time will tell
Great pick up at a good price hes the perfect age to fit in with our core excellent move now if only they traded slafkovski be a perfect summer
Newhook's progression has staggered and Colorado just fleeced MTL. Newhook is a bust, Dvorak 2.0
GG habs
Very much an overpayment for yet another small forward. I hope they package him up for Dubois.
You just wait and see the Canadians will crash and burn this year again.
Nice! A player than can play right away next season with a huge potential. Great! Only 22 years old!

He'll provide really good depth, better than Evans, don't see him as a 2nd line center.
Kind of feel with this move we might be trading down with somebody who wants Michkov to turn that #5 pick back into two 1st rounders.
Halex… Good job.
To small… Halex.
Win for both teams. Give them freedom like dach and they will play
Smurfs get smurf 😢
Hughes got Fleeced .Period
Its Not a Kirby Dach trade in the least .
Terrible trade for the habs 🙁 . 1 goal in the playoffs . 1 goal in his last 20 games . 5ft 10…I don’t get it
2 centers under 6' is not good team building imo. We'll see
maybe this means they take michkov or Reinbacher and not a center.
dont know anything about this. trusting hughes and co on their player assessment…
I really don't understand this trade for an underperforming small 22 yrs old center….I thought they wanted to get bigger!!!
I dont like that trade because I dont know much about Newhook and it seems like we gave alot for him. I hope they know something we dont
Kent Hugues really like the 2019 draft… Dach 3rd and Newhook 16th…what's next ? Turcotte ? Krebs ? Poulin ? Pelletier ? Ryan Suzuki?
3rd line center
Pretty much guarantees Montreal takes a D with their first pick
Could he be our Brayden Point? Naw. But it’s nice to dream…
Hardly a huge trade. Time to settle down and have a drink. He's a third line/fourth line guy. Relax.
Wasted 2 draft picks. 41% on face offs, 14 goals, he'll be a real impact player.

I habsolutley love it. I live in newfoundland and am a die hard habs fan <3

The Habs didn't need to pay as much as they did. The Florida pick wasn't needed to pick up a guy like Newhook.

Mind blowing, what Hughes was thinking!!
3rd or 4th bottom 6 player for 1st and 2nd round this draft. Oh my, worst NHL trade IMO for habs.
