Isn’t it about time we see Montreal and Toronto in the the Heritage Classic? Why hasn’t this happened.

How about a home and home up north on a frozen lake . Only mom and dads + family in the crowd …

  2. ImpossibleGoal3010

This match-up was the pinnacle of hockey rivalry and lore ,,,,, now it is a pussyfest , what do you expect Mathews , Marner. , Nylander and the rest of the cast of pussies

  3. johnnymavrigg

Police too worried about riots in a huge stadium

  4. Bytrsweet

This would be great but people in the US wouldn’t care so that means that Bettmen wouldn’t care either

  5. 0bl1v10n204

Love the idea! Let’s please wait a few years though until MTL is hopefully competitive. 🙂

I think the challenge is neither team has the right venue for an outdoor game:

BMO Field (home of the Argos) is to small
McGill Stadium (home of the Als) is also too small
    Olympic Stadium is not outdoors.

I’d like to see a battle of Ontario at some point too

  8. Novanator33

Because the nhl would rather have a sabres vs leafs game, marked as a sabres home game, but played in Hamilton Ontario…

  9. Bourque25

The entire NHL runs on selling American TV advertisements.

This is literally the answer to every one of these ‘why does Bettman do this’ questions.

  10. Cautious-Bad662

I would love to watch my team beating one of the top 5 team in the league. We all know Leafs are chockers when it come for special event. Go Habs Go

  11. backofatree26

Because it will be too cold for the stuck-up, rich Leaf fans.

  12. Juice_Wigalow

Because the league wants good teams in their premier event

  13. niceisbriss

Cause no “new fan” = nhl doesn’t care!

  14. Fetznpeppi

Would set the Canadian Police and national guard in a state of emergency. The country would basically shutdown

  15. slafyousilly

I think you mean Montreal and Boston

  16. Charlie2343

    Blackhawk’s gotta be involved, somehow

  17. freezier134a

I’m amazed it hasn’t , especially with the leafs on a high and the habs on a rebuild.

  18. TheRitalinCommando

Because nobody wants to watch Junior Hockey on a national stage?

    (kidding! kidding!)

  19. PhillipMcCrevice

Best I can do is Blackhawk’s vs Penguins

  20. They don’t give a shit about us because we could have the worst team every year and still full our arenas.

They don’t need to further increase visibility for our teams or markets because we are a given.

  21. Habs Barber Pole jerseys would be sick for this!

  22. Master-File-9866

Edmonton where it all started( outdoor games) had to wait 20 years to get the flames.

  23. But, someone would have to win. That game would just go on forever.

  24. artwarrior

The Blue Jays won back to back world series in ’92 and ’93 . If it wasn’t for Fraser’s call on that high stick on Gilmour and the Leaf’s won the game and series, we would have seen a Canadian Stanley Cup final in ’93 . Canadian teams were killing it . Then the MLB labour strike happened to stop all this .

    That’s why. Do your research ! 🙂

    ( Happy Canada Day )

  25. Wrong-Disaster4765

Sounds great, just make sure the hot cocoa is unlimited! ☕️

  26. WouldYouKindlyKill

For years, I’ve been thinking about this. Why the hell doesn’t the NHL start their season on Canadian Thanksgiving? Have this (Toronto V Montreal) for the Sunday game and the Battle of Alberta for the Monday. Americans get spoiled for football on their T-Day, so why can we get something for ours? (And anyone who says we get CFL, like nah, no thanks, I want Hockey)

  27. IUsedTheRandomizer

That one playoff series notwithstanding, the rivalry has felt pretty stale since the lockout.

  28. gabriel197600

As an American / Blues Fan, I would love to see this matchup featured. Not fan non traditional / struggling markets being “propped up”, or storylines manufactured.

I mean fuck it seems like forever since the Canadiens have won a Cup, throw them a bone for Pete’s sake!

  29. LeditGabil

Because both of these two teams are sold out for the entire season from day one anyway. Heritage Classic is a marketing stunt and they don’t need it.

  30. bluAstrid

Neither team can realistically increase its fanbase further, so the league puts absolutely no marketing effort on them.

  31. 2drunk2giveafuk

The Seattle game is a joke, I don’t care what your team is but keep the game in the frozen wastelands of Canada or Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, or Buffalo.

  32. AM_Bokke

Where could a heritage classic be played in Quebec?

  33. vandtex

Toronto and Montreal haven’t even had any outdoor games against each other. This needs to happen.

  34. tony_countertenor

Leafs Vs habs has a built in audience so there’s no motivation for the league to do this

  35. onceagain772

No motivation because the Canadian viewing market is strong. You don’t need a special event to draw in viewers.

There’s no leafs/habs classic for the same reason Bettman refuses to admit defeat in Arizona and the the team out of there. The American market/dollars.

  36. Would definitely be the biggest Canadian draw.

I suspect that that would be the game if ever Montreal or Toronto organized and hosted one.

That said, the main reason these games happen is that some of the smaller teams want a big revenue boost from filling up a football stadium.

Toronto and Montreal don’t particularly need the revenue boost and neither city has a particularly large outdoor venue.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHL_Heritage_Classic#List_of_games

Generally smaller cities have hosted. Can’t quite remember the details but I think the Hamilton game was more organized by the Sabres. Also I seem to remember an Ottawa-Montreal game on Parliament Hill that is not listed
