What’s Kraken: Kraken Get 2nd Overall Pick & First Player

The NHL lottery just happened and the Seattle Kraken moved up to the 2nd overall pick! It was the first NHL event the Kraken were a part of and it went well. It may not have been the most interesting draft lottery otherwise as only the Seattle Kraken moved up and only the Ducks moved down.

We also get caught up on the first Seattle Kraken signing in Luke Henman. A good skating center in the QMJHL he was signed thanks to his connections to the Carolina Hurricanes, and his strong Leadership abilities.

  1. I'd love to have Beniers as our first draft pick. A projected top 6 forward would be perfect for us. But, In Ron We Trust, so if he thinks he has someone better, who am I to judge?

  2. If they want someone to play for the Kraken soon, Beniers is a really good pick, but I don't know if they need that. They'll have a solid team from expansion, I'd rather take someone like Edvinsson or Guenther who have really high ceilings, knowing there's no rush to get them in the show and could be better in the future.

  3. If not Beniers, Mactavish the guy's got swagger and leadership skills and size and probably could make the team right out the draft

  4. Should have has a Canadian Beer for the Canucks who come down. Please do an Update on the top 3 coaches rumors' agree with you, this could be the only year that Seattle will actually try for a forward. Francis will take great defensive team players in the expansion.

  5. I’d be stunned to see us pass on Beniers if Sabres take Power. Just seems like the type of guy Ron describes whenever talking about future players. I like the ‘other’ Michigan guy too Kent Johnson but only if we trade back which I don’t see happening.

  6. The problem Seattle will have is Because there’s no AHL team what do you do cuz if whoever they pick here they don’t feel is quite ready yet you’re not gonna loan them to another organization

  7. Yeah, definitely an exciting time. While I usually agree that building a hockey team from defenseman up is a good draft strategy, for an inaugural franchise it makes so much more sense to take a guy like Beniers, not only for his potential as a point scorer but also how much early excitement he can bring to the Kraken as well, and I think they should come out of the expansion draft with a lot of young defensemen anyways. And pairing him with a top goalie prospect like Lennox or Gaudreau in the later rounds, that should be really enticing.
