After coming over last off season from the Sharks for 4th round draft pick in 2024, Adin Hill took the reins of the Golden Knights, compiling a 11-4 record in the playoffs with a 2.17 GAA, backstopping Vegas to their first Stanley Cup. Hill is set to become a UFA on July 1st, so should he be considered a top-tier free agent? TSN Hockey’s Martin Biron shares his thoughts.

Hill deserves a good contract even if it's a fluke he earned every penny.

That's a good question. His performance in the Finals was outstanding and he made a lot of high-danger saves. His value will be mitigated somewhat by Cassidy's system and really sound defensive structure that forces a lot of outside shots. He showed excellent athleticism and reaction time. If I had to guess, he'll get $5-6M. I don't believe Vegas will have the cap space to match would-be offers. Brossoit had $2.3M cap hit and is also a UFA. Hill's cap hit was only $800k. This is all going on while their No. 1 goalie Logan Thompson has been out injured and still with 2 more years of his entry-level contract. Thompson's contract is a key reason why Vegas can afford more quality depth.
The real key UFA Vegas has to try and keep is Barbashev. His play since the trade will significantly boost his value. It seems likely some teams will throw big money at Barbashev and I don't think Vegas can match and be willing to sacrifice another player to make cap space.
He never played a playoff game and stepped into the saddle and gave us the pleasure of witnessing some OTHERWORLDLY saves.

I don't get why everyone acts like a goalie having their first season as a starter and succeeding is some kind of anomaly. We've seen it many times. All NHL goaltenders are elite, and when the opposition doesn't have a "book on you" yet so to speak, you're at a massive advantage.
Better a third liner than a goalie in the modern NHL.
Not every goalie gets to play behind a team that's 14 million over the cap
Cassidy has a goalie friendly system. He is def going to get paid though, and deserves it
I believe Hill is going to stay like 3 years for less with VGK team and he will continue to play for next season.

Barbs is your one and only concern here! Hill is getting paid no matter what. Can’t keep them both. Vegas has the systems in place to throw in an EBUG and steal games. Barbashev types don’t grow on trees.
Hoping Hill stays in Vegas. The no state income tax is at least 10% bonus in salary if he stays in Nevada. That has a lot to do with many UFA players wanting to play in Vegas. Who doesn’t want to take home more of their paycheck?
