I think max does a really good job here breaking down the free agency moves fairly and sometimes critically. Written before ghost and Fischer were signed.

Shouldn’t have done almost all of it minus Ghostisbhere and Sprong and maybe Lyon

Only one I dislike is Holl.

Yzerman cooked, I’m very objective and still say there were no bad deals. The two people will point to is Compher and Holl but Compher is decent 2C and we got him at like exactly market value. Even if he produces a shade under his 25m deal that’s still fine considering Centers get overpaid in this market and he clearly makes our hockey team better. We also didn’t have a single right shot centermen so this gives added fit benefit. Now Detroit has Larkin, Compher, Copp down the middle with 2 blue chip prospects in Kasper and Danielson waiting in the Wings. Detroit is doing a great job at balancing free agent talent additions as well acquiring picks and prospects at the same time. (Best of both worlds) Improving both long term and short term. Love it. As for Holl, i’d say he’s maybe over paid by 1 mil per year and there are 3 years of course. Honestly not that big of a deal considering right shot dman are rare and Holl makes our team better. After adding Holl I was hoping to acquire an offensive dman to balance the team out so Gostisbehere was perfect fit. Kostin and Sprong also appear to be good value deals and better than other guys we deployed in the bottom 6 last year like Erne and Sundqvist. Detroit easily vaults past Ottawa in the short term while still killing them in the long term. Wings for sure have top 5 prospect pool whereas Sens would have like bottom 25. Detroit and Buffalo are doing things the right way. Excited for next year, also wouldn’t be surprised if Detroit starts to shop Veleno and Zadina

Is there a more boring writer than Bultman? It takes him so many words to say nothing.

So, we’ve bolstered the middle across our 4 lines, albeit at the expense of giving Compher a contract that would pay him under the presumption that he’ll maintain higher point totals. We also have 2 very high floor middle 6 centers in our pipeline. Both will have a very easy path to get there. In saying this, I feel like it’s time for Steve to consider taking more high risk/high reward players at the top of the draft now. He had an opportunity to address high end scoring this offseason, and I definitely don’t see it happening after Seider and Raymond get locked up. If we don’t deviate from picking the prototypical “safe, responsible” guys at the top, then we’re left with taking those chances in the later rounds (Lombardi, Hanas, Dower Nilsson, etc)

We got Alex Lyon for two years and he’s not a rockstar, but when he’s on, he can be a brick wall. If they play him, it could mean we have a decent couple of regular seasons
Everybody saying we made great depth signings doesn’t realize 90% of our roster is depth on any other team. We still have no goal scoring.

I’m just curious what our 6 defensemen will look like next year on opening night. Was hoping to see edvinsson and wallinder get a look but it’s seeming like that’s very unlikely

I really think we have wingers capable of 30 goal seasons, but haven’t had the quality center support. In theory they have that now and guys like Zadina, Raymond, Perron, Kubalik, and Berggren could all have great years. Really curious what will happen with Rasmussen, he has definitely played above the 4th line…

TLDR: Did add players, didn’t get better
