10 games for Witkowski a cut-and-dry decision, Tkachuk wrong for fueling fire

Doug MacLean and Jeff Marek break down the 10-game suspension to Luke Witkowski for his role in the Red Wings-Flames brawl, and if Matthew Tkachuk was in the wrong for what he did as well.

  1. What a hot headed idiot you are Doug Maclean. Tkachuk did not hide behind his teammate. He taps Witkowski and then glided towards his own bench, in doing so Frolik was between Tkachuk and Witkowski. However, once it was clear Witkowski was coming back Tkachuk clearly moved into the fray. Tkachuk didn't cower behind his teammates and take shots from a far. Tkachuk went to meet Witkowski and was pushed back by the linesman. Watch the damn clip again please Doug.

I find it really hard to understand how the tap from Tkachuk is a 5 minute major and a 10 minute misconduct (plus a coming suspension), while Witkowski rag dolling a defenseless player only gets 10 minutes and Mantha also only gets 10 minutes for continuing to punch a guy who is trapped on the ground within the door to a bench area. At a loss as to how Detroit walks away with a 5 minute pp after that ordeal.

  2. Wow, what a sad goddam joke for a feminized wimpified NHL. A Little scrum is now yet another rallying cry for idiots to whine about "violence" in hockey. Wana ban sticks now to??

  3. To those saying Mantha needs to get suspended, they were both throwing down regardless of who was on top, I think the conflict was even, but Ferland also attacked from the bench which also carries with it large fines and suspension. At the end of the day people were excited to see a bit of old school hockey and a little scrum like this is exciting for the league, it would be different if someone got hurt but nobody did (yes im aware that someone definitely could have been) but both teams want to see the other team be punished more for whatever reason, I think a 1 for 1 suspension is fair, Witkowski was and should get the worst of it, I say that as a fan of Detroit and Witkowski, but I don't think the punishment needs to go much further than that, Witkowski 10 games, Tkatchuk 4-5 maybe a fine and move on.

  4. Witkowski was clearly going to the locker room and tkachuk egged him on. He needs to get at least the same amount of games. Whole thing would have been avoided if that little rat didn’t do anything

  5. Keith Tkachuk was an outstanding hockey player and will always be one of the greats in St. Louis, but his son is a punk.

  6. Who cares if Tkachuk tapped him with his stick? It was just a tap. It's not like he slashed him or cross checked him

  7. Doug MacLean had a real problem back in the day. Can you imagine, who do I send out? Probert or Kocur? What a luxury when you had those two on your team. The Bruise Brothers! Ahhhhh, how I miss old time hockey.

  8. Re: fines for squirting water from the bench, I remember Vikings WR Randy Moss being fined for that after a playoff loss one season, so it wouldn't be the 1st time this happened.

  9. 10 games for going back out on the ice but when a player almost gets killed, its only 1-2 games…okay this is why their rules don't protect anyone ahhahaa…NHL wonders why

  10. I loved witkowski when he played for Tampa last season. 10 games is bs for anyone in that situation. NHL needs to chill

  11. Link Gaetz wouldn’t have left quietly if he was still playing today. He was always breaking the rules. His biggest incident (while playing for the SJ Sharks) resulted in a 10 game suspension in which he attacked Pittsburgh forward Troy Looney (at the Cow Palace) just after the final buzzer as everyone was getting ready to leave the ice for the dressing room.
