  1. As a Devils fan, I see a lot of parallels between the position my team was in when we started the rebuild and the Red Wings. Both of our teams had amazing success in the 90's and 2000's. We both had Hall of Fame GM's in Lou Lamoriello and Ken Holland. Ken Holland ran the team into the ground at the end of his tenure similarly to what Lou Lamoriello did to our team. At the beginning of our rebuild we had no prospects, no players that we could trade and get good draft capital/prospects, tons of bad contracts, and a really good goalie in Cory Schneider who was winning too many games for us and causing us to draft low. In the McDavid and Matthews drafts we had awful rosters but we ended up picking 6th and 12th because of his play. Those picks turned into Zacha and Mcleod. Schneider ended up blowing out his hip and falling off of a cliff and that caused the team to bottom out and although I will never wish injury on a player that was probably a blessing in disguise for our franchise as we wouldn't have ended up with Hughes or Hischier. You guys have Seider and Edvinsson is coming up whereas we have Luke Hughes and Nemec coming up either this year or next year, so I think on defense both our franchises are set. The difference has probably been been our lottery luck and our ability to draft Hughes and Hischier. The Red Wings will need to find a star Center in order to compete for Cups and I don't think they quite have that in Larkin. If I were them I would hang onto my draft picks and cap space until that type of player becomes available in a trade or free agency and pounce like Vegas did with Eichel, Stone, and Pietrangelo, or just hope Stevie Y can pull a rabbit out of his hat in the draft.

There was a person who mentioned the Rangers. The Rangers are not a team you should be modeling your rebuild after. The contracts they have given out to players like Panarin, Trocheck, Goodrow, and Trouba (About $30M in cap space and they are all over 30) combined with whiffing on top 10 picks in Andersson, Kravtsov, Kakko, and Lafreniere will most likely be the reason they don't win.

  2. I wish you could annihilate Valenti!!! That guy is a total moron who knows absolutely nothing about hockey.. I just wish he would keep his half wit pie hole shut.. he looks like a buffoon

  3. Yzerman came right out and said he still feels like they're a couple years out when interviewed at the draft. Anyone who even slightly pays attention knows this WITHOUT him saying it. You're a fare-weather fan if you don't get that.

  4. I just love the hockey geniuses who think they know more than Yzerman does. LOL

It doesn't matter what Yzerman does. He drafts and develops he's not doing enough. Every trade he makes sucks.

He signs Free agents he's ruining the rebuild.

Each player he drafts isn't good or is average. "I would've picked that guy Instead." These geniuses have never even seen these guys play and they're "draft experts "

Yzerman had to clean up Holland's mess. Restock the prospects. It's not easy. 31 other teams are trying to win.

That being said the host can calm the F down. It's a game. You're acting as if your life depends on the Red Wings.

When Yzerman drafted Seider, the geniuses were asking for Holland to return. Then Seider showed he's a franchise D. These same clowns said they wanted him to be drafted. They didn't even know who the F he was.

I'm not speaking for everyone. Some fans actually do their homework on prospects. They give informed opinions.

But most Red Wings fans just shoot their mouths off and criticize everything Yzerman does.

It's so predictable. Every summer I hear this crap. Just relax and let the man do his job. 10:28

  5. Some signing is question about Yzerman such as Copp and Chariot, Hagg, getting rid of your offensive d man like Hronek was confusing and Bertuzzi.

  6. I agree with you Flannel, how come the Lions turn it around so Quickly and the wings are still spinning their wheels. buy the bums out ( abelkater and Howard ) and move on. Give it up red shirt and watch mouth.

  7. Neal is an impatient bad take machine. Let Yzerman cook. I'm not ready to bitch until year 3 of lalondes coaching tenure.

  8. I think Detroit sports fans are very tired of the mediocrity that has been Detroit sports for the last 10 years more or less. The Pistons have not been an exciting team since 2008, the Tigers wasted the best team on paper in the 2010s and honestly don't have a quality superstar that makes us excited about, and the Wings have not been in the playoffs for years. The Lions are the only team that have shown promise and that is only because of the way Dan Campbell has changed the team. So I get the frustration and unhappiness with the "rebuilds take time" comments every year. I think the thing that separates the Red Wings from the other teams mentioned is that they have shown improvement and they have a GM that went through the process as a player and as a GM. Without a doubt, Tampa Bay likely barely makes 1 finals without the drafting of Yzerman. The thing people fail to recognize is that the Lightning had a decent, playoff team when he took over. He had Stamkos, who was young and healthy, and built a dynasty around him. The difference with the Wings is he inherited a team with no cap space, no player in the top 75 in the league meaning no trade assets and basically no options except through the draft. So of course the team will take time to rebuild. Yzerman wants a core that will last 5-8 years and bring home at least 2-3 cups in the time. He wants a team that will be locked in place for years to come, so he only needs to fill small holes rather than the whole team. Look at the Astros. They were a dumpster fire for 8-9 years, worst in the AL by far. But they built their team through good drafts and now have become honestly a dynasty, if you can overlook the cheating lol. The point is, we want a team that will be the best for a long time. Not just make a run for 2-3 years and then be stuck with bad contracts and old players. We want a dynasty again. Yzerman knows what he is doing. In 2-3 years when we are competing for a cup, all the skeptics will be talking about how they knew all along Yzerman knew what he was doing. Best things in life take time.

  9. 3:50 you want to see them just make the playoffs? I don’t know about you, but I’m looking for Cups and not “just make the playoffs” where we bow out in round 1 or 2 every season. That is just as, if not more, frustrating and tiresome than not being in it at all.

  10. 4:23 don’t forget – Vegas is -2 mil in cap space as of today 6/30 – with 41/50 contracts. Bettman has given them Carte Blanche to do what they want with the cap

Neal and D-Mac – glad you ripped Sam a new hole. Talking about giving voice to the “voiceless” when the “voiceless” in question have been the loudest and most obnoxious over the past couple days!

  11. I'm not understanding why suddenly anyone has expectations for this team to be ready to contend tomorrow. We aren't there yet. We won't be for at least 2-3 more seasons at the soonest. 1st off, we're still getting picks in trades. Which tells you we're still drafting. Those players need 2-3 years in the minors then 2-3 years in the NHL before they are ready. We have many holes right now & most of it wasn't Steve. It was how badly Holland guided the ship for long term failure. Long expensive contracts to basically AHLers like Ericsson. Not trading old stars for future assets. Etc. Yzerman has done very well considering how bad of shape we were in just a few years ago. Now we have several high end talents. More comming. But it does take years especially as bad of shape as we were in. I have faith in the Yzerplan. It's going better than people realize. But results just take time. Building hockey players to be great & building a lasting force in the league can't be done without building through the draft & developing our picks. Just revel in the fact that we're going to have a long term success when all is said & done. Specifically because Steve is responsible & doing a rebuild the right way.

  12. It amazes me the level of disassociation some fans of the game have when they can look at a team that was LEGITIMATELY DEAD before Yzerman showed up and have this expectation of instant success that is completely reliant on his shoulders while playing in the toughest division in hockey and while also never making mistakes ever…

No person is immune to criticism but Detroit has been STEADILY improving both in terms of their chemistry and possible win equity, but even beyond that it's not Yzerman's job to make the team play well, he has to look after the franchise as a whole, and hockey feels exciting again as a Wings fan even with some disappointments.

The Vrana deal outcome hurt for me, I was a fan of that move (but that's primarily due to the 2021 injury, and Mantha hasn't been better for the caps) as does Ned's outlook (who we got for nothing), but he's been a knockout in the draft so far and there are few GMs in the league who can compare with his asset management when selling sticks and stones.

Our prospect pool is top 3 in hockey. Blashill is gone like everyone wanted. Larkin's signed for 8 years, and the team has a while to build chemistry. There's lots to be excited about in hockey-town for now and a long time coming.

((Also Stevie if you're reading this, bring back Namestnikov, he was the best 4th line depth you had on the team in 2021 and you can prob get him for pennies now.))

  13. D mac had it right when he said its not about stats and whose the best in the league. Its about who is the right fit. Look how long the rebuild when yzerman was drafted took. Making a great team will take time, and real fans understand this. Fair weather fans are the ones complaining that 5 years is Yzerman taking too long. Keep rebuilding and putting the pieces together. Make the wings a great team again.

  14. FFS everyone complaining quit, just quit, until you've played hockey 30+ years won multiple cups and have the IQ Stevie does then you can complain. I haven't lost faith and see the vision sometimes things happen for example look at our luck in the draft lottery last 2 years in a row, right players aren't available at trade deadline or under contract hell just think we have $30 million in cap space for a reason also look into who is all part our scouting team 😉

  15. To any uneducated fans please be patient while its painful to lose we will be a winning dynasty let everything play out

    Sincerely,
39 year old red wing fan

  16. took 8 yrs and some great trades before tampa bay lightning was a legit contender from yzerman so yes hes on the clock to rebuild this redwing team into contenders so the hell with all the dipshits thinking its gonna happen overnight?! lol 🤪🤷‍♂️👍
