Goddamn I hate the Avs announcer so much. Worst thing is if NATHAN MAAAAAAAAAAAACKINNNON scores, but it’s always painful to listen to the guy.
Look, I don’t get how you can hand out that contract to Compher, but he is a decent player. No one in their right mind will tell you otherwise. He’s just not that guy you give that kinda money to.
You need people to outperform their contracts if you want to build a good team. What’s the absolute best case scenario here? He keeps doing what he did last season, for the first time in his career at age 27. That would mean he’s on an okay contract. Not great, not good, okay. And he has to do it for 5 years.
There’s just no way for him to outperform that deal. And Yzerman keeps handing these kinda contracts out like candy. Sooner or later the young guys need new deals and you’re suddenly Vancouver – capped out, topping out as a bubble team.
