The NHL Free Agency period opened up earlier today and the Edmonton Oilers made some moves. The biggest one was signing Connor Brown from the Washington Capitals for $775K, plus performance bonuses, on a one-year deal. On top of that, the Oilers signed Lane Pederson from the Vancouver Canucks and brought back Drake Caggiula.

Of course, there were plenty of other signings that happened around the NHL. Ryan O’Reilly is now with the Nashville Predators, Blake Wheeler is heading to the Big Apple for less than a million for one year, and Radko Gudas got the bag with the Anaheim Ducks. By taking 3mil from next Yr (to pay Brown) it nicely lets Holland hide his mistakes of last Yr (overpay Yamo) – having to give away assets (Klostin & ) to dump his bad contracts. Overpd Pulju, Kassian, Nurse, Foegele, Campbell etc still paying Neal, overPd Murray,Keith, Turris etc ). Doing all this so he can now overpay BOUCH. Bouch had 1 good mo – trade him now & keep some solid players. But bit by bit he is giving away all team assets & ending up w completely empty cupboards for the future -no draft picks, no tradeable contracts..
Brown allows hiding of Yamo – to overpay Bouch (-4Playoffs)… but is not a finisher & Team need a finisher. Hides GM errors -pldr don't overPay Bouch w the $$

Wish Oilers traded Foegle and kept Kostin… it is what it is…
How are you guys not concerned they didn’t make the defence better? Ceci needs to be moved to the 3rd pair for someone better. Yes these are forward player wins today but…same defence that couldn’t get it done last year. Let that sink in.
Worth noting that Kings are also over the cap now and will need to get rid of someone.
If Holloway, Lavoie, McLeod and Broberg break out the way I hope they will Oilers win the Cup !!! I sure hope Lavoie kills it in camp and becomes a great Oiler !!!
I don`t get the signings.
Oilers would have needed 2way play, grit and size.
Wheeler would have been the prime target. He`s at the Rangers now, making 800k and has 300k performance bonus.
If you`re not Pul or Yama, you`ll score 50 points easy on MCDs right wing, if you`re Blake Wheeler, you probably score 80.
Kane – MCD – Wheeler
RNH – Drai – Hyman

Now you loose 3m in cap, in this cores last shot at the cap, because it`s Drais contract year.
Another guy, James van Riemsdyk, big body, now in Boston for 1m.
I don`t see how any of the signings help the Oilers to play a better defense, don`t get scored on 5vs5 and are a tougher team to play against.
Am I the only one that sees this as a big failure?? Brown is a nice pickup but our team seems worse than last year. Our defence is absolutely screwed.
The Oilers are not a better team, they just downgraded and got worse but they did get rid of a bad Russian player that everyone loves but the ukranian coach. 😂😂

I hope everyone feels better now that brown is here to help solve all the defensive and goaltending inconsistencies the oilers have.
