Inside look at the New York Rangers’ busy start to 2023 free agency | New York Post Sports

For a team that had to allocate its scarce funds carefully once the NHL free-agency window opened on Saturday, the Rangers bulldozed onto the scene as soon as the clock struck noon and made a fair amount of noise in just over an hour.

The Rangers signed nine players, seven of whom were given one-year contracts, which was really the only way the club was going to be able to fill needs in its lineup and add organizational depth given its cap constraints.

  1. Frankly, not a bad start considering the circumstances. Now, we need a "chemist" to make this new potion (lineup) work. That would be Laviolette and his coaching staff.
Drury gave them a lot of ingredients that look like a recipe made for a chasing cup kind of team. A lot of grinders among these acquisitions.
If I was the coach I would get the message loud and clear. We are not in "letter to the fans" time anymore. 😉
That being said, and it's probably superstition on my part, I don't like that Quick has won the cup 3 times including this year. He can't be that lucky and win again in 2024, can he?
On the other hand he won his second against the Rangers. So he owes us one, kind of.
    OK! I'm stretching a bit, I admit. 🙂

  2. Would have been informative to also discuss Bonino, and where he stands as a role player.

Is Bonino likely to make the Rangers roster, or is he perceived as a Hartford player?

He seems to be the type of role player, the Rangers desperately need.

  3. Tbone is right, why wasn't Bonino discussed? Was the beat reporter unprepared? Lots of possible 3rd & 4th liners and 3rd pair Ds. Obviously Wheeler is the key
