  1. I’d rather have Danielson at this point. I don’t think we are at the point of trading the 9th overall pick yet. Also, I’ve come off of talking ceilings for players. The talking heads say a bunch of nonsense like this guy will for sure only be a third line guy. How do you know that lol

  2. Hey Legorocks99 Bravo To You Good Sir. I Think You Are One Of THe Few Working Today Frank Seravalli, Real Kyper & Bourne, HockeyBuzzCast, The Chris Johnston Show, None Of Them Are. All Taking The Day Off With All This Breaking News & Free Agent Signings Still Going On.

  3. I think the fact that Detroit kept the pick is more telling about the state of DeBrincat than anything else. Now is Danielson going to live up to the pick? Only God knows and he’s not telling.. and frankly it’s hard to say. I’ve seen guys taken early flop (Look at Jacques Richard.. 2nd overall in 72… ) or late guys shining (The Oilers got Glenn Anderson and Jari Kurri in back to back 4th rounds… pretty good picks)… so it’s too early to tell.. He could be great.. he could be ok.. or he could be never to be seen again.. who knows… but time will tell…

  4. 5:24 They took Nate at 9th overall because Bedard had said that the toughest player to play against was Nate Danielson, not to mention the kid is a stud and will help us SHUT DOWN BEDARD!

  5. I like how all you arm chair GMs that probably have never seen danielson play, who is a young player we don’t even know how good he is going to be in the nhl and you are so short sighted that you think off the top Debricant is just better and he is already in his prime… what’s the point of rushing into signing a guy like debricant who has had his struggles scoring just to make the team a little better now? They’re so far away from contending why not keep building up? I don’t get it. I like Stevie Yzerman mindset. Don’t be swayed by social media, none of these people know what they’re talking about anyway, just stick to your plan. LGRW

  6. he wants 9 to 9.5 million a year. several gms said no thanks when they heard that. and zadina is waived as well, we could have had quinn hughes. thanks ken holland, you bum.

  7. Nobody knows what Nate Danielson will turn into…nobody. That includes Steve Yzerman, though obviously that guy is sharp as a razor at spotting upside where others see little. That said Danielson is a center and quality franchise centers are a PITA to find on the open market and/or through trades…wingers are not so much trouble to land. Far better to take your guy at 9OA and then look to add scoring at wing later. Yes Debrincat is a skilled sniper, …and he's not really an Yzerman kind of talent. I personally rather SY pushes all in on Travis Konecny who's a much better fit in Lalonde's system…than overpay for a guy that has already said he doesn't want to stay in Ottawa and may potentially end up a UFA next season.

  8. Lego – maybe you should check out Yzerman’s presser from today. He is a little bit clearer about the direction the team is headed toward with the Compher, Holl, Sprong and Shayne signings. As far as Danielson is concerned, ask Bedard himself what he thinks of Danielson. He says that Danielson was the hardest player he has ever played against. Still love your content, even if I disagree with this take.

  9. Debrincat is going to score 40 goals for the Ducks? Hard to imagine. What I think prevented Debrincat going to the Red Wings was the length of the contract he wants. Debrincat doesn't want to sign a 4 or 5 year contract. Ottawa wanted a prospect the Wings did not want to trade. The next move is Ottawa's. Nobody agreed to what they wanted, to make the trade.

  10. Shame on Yzerman if this is true, he should be ashamed. Yzerman is not a god, he can’t be right every time.

  11. Yzerman is a idiot first he says no to this trade second then he over pay defenseman Justin holl and forward jt compher in
    free agency

  12. From the Yzerman press conference, it sounds like he might take the Vegas or Seattle method of winning a cup. A deep roster. With many 20 goal scorers. And possible 30 goal scorers. Debrincat could be part of it. But not for the big money he is asking for, or length of contract.

  13. I can't believe Yzerman would be foolish enough to turn down this trade if it was setup as just Debrincat for the 9th pick. Danielson might've been available at 17 or I'm sure the wings could have packaged there 2nd rounders to either move up from 17 or get an additional 1st. Holl would've probably not been signed & Edvinnson filled that spot. The decline makes absolutely no sense

  14. Dorion said no one got to negotiate with DeBrincat until FA time. It would be foolish to give a 9th overall without even getting to talk term. Stevie made the right move. We'll see whether playing for Detroit or getting a longer term matters more to ADB (provided Dorion is reasonable which he has yet to be).

  15. Term, not money. Amazed Steve gave Compher 5 years, but if you listened to his comments from the presser an hour ago, he liked what JT has become over his career, and especially that he is versatile and can play C. LW, RW. The Cat was not going to get more than 5 years from Steve. Let him go to the Isles where (as I have already said in another post), Lou likes giving out 7 yr contracts like Halloween candy

  16. I truly don't understand why everyone wants detroit to get debrincat so bad. He is a defensive liability and yeah he scores goals but that isnt going to help make Detroit a playoff team. The Sens got debrincat and everyone thought they were going to be great last year! Look how that turned out for them. No way in hell I am overpaying a divisional rival for debrincat. The longer this goes on the more it hurts Ottawa, which is good for the wings.

  17. I dont think the sens would've used that pick if the trade went through, I'm betting they had another team ready to flip it to for a roster piece

  18. Never trade a high pick when youre not a bonefied cup contender. Steve is taking the vegas model. Same model that made the preds so hard to play against awhile ago.

  19. It seemed to be a general concensus that this was the year to use the 9th pick in a deep draft and take a chance on a forward with a very high upside. Any other year it might make sense to pick someone who is likely to be bottom six, but if the Wings do improve, they won't pick as high in future weaker drafts.
Since there were some exciting centers that would probably be available at 9, it made sense that Yzerman would want to take a gamble that one of them would become a bigger star than Debrincat. I don't see how using that pick on Danielson makes ANY sense, especially since Debrinket is in the perfect age window as our core. Danielson might have been available at 17.
So I agree with the critics. Its hard to imagine what was the problem with a trade featuring #9 for DeBrincat. Was the term of the contract too long? it seems like that is the type of concession you might have to make when going after a big target. I think if there was anything to these rumors Yzerman negotiated himself out of the running.
