  1. @Brodes Media
I really hope you guys read comments, and stay with me cuz itā€™s valid, itā€™s long but read it.

Im gonna attempt to at least try and settle this debate lmao

a little preamble here but out of everything iā€™ve watched for the 97.5 streams, this one aggravated me the most. Very heated and quick to argue whether it was with each other or the caller. It was said in this stream that we are all smaller than this, and it is a much bigger situation that all of us. correct, it is. we have no control in how this pans out. I lost some respect with the quick to jump on callers (even though some suggestions were a bit ridiculous)ā€¦ thereā€™s an easy solution to this debate imo.

Matvei Michkov is an elite prospect, whether or not you like to believe it, Tyrone, he was battling Bedard for #1 very early on. Why did he fall to #2 (early on)? because Bedard had an unbelievable, break out year compared to previous. He earned that spot.

Michkov was ranked at #2 for a decent amount of time before the geopolitical climate began to gain some heatā€¦ which is understandable. It is risky taking a Russian player currently with all thatā€™s going on over there, lots of unknowns.

Howeverā€¦. To answer the debate on why he went #7, thereā€™s literally 3 reasons, thatā€™s it. 1) immediate impact: some of these franchises are looking for players that can assist their current situation immediately (or sometime within 2 years), 2) a quick follow up that plays into #1 is the geopolitical climateā€¦ not only do teams have to wait 2-3 years for Michkov to come over, but thereā€™s the Russian factor with the political situation that could def assure them to steer clear. 3) very important in my mind: Michkov specifically was targeting 2 teams to play for prior to the draftā€¦ Washington was one, and the other really wasnā€™t known. It was reported that he was not personable in certain interviews with teams he wasnā€™t interested in i.e bad hockey market or just didnā€™t like the area / franchise enough to buy in. The Flyers turned out to be his #1 choice by surprise, and thatā€™s literally spoken from himā€¦ watch the interviews post draft.

The point being all of these factors together make sense for why he went #7. if he was going to go before #7, he wouldā€™ve gone at most #5. AZ was not taking him bc he literally ghosted their interviews and made it clear he would not play, not to mention their franchise situation right now. As for 1-4, Tyrone you said it #1 was locked. So 2-4 had a decision to make where my point 1-3 all mattered in that franchise decision. Does he want to play here first of all, is he interested? (Turns out no) but lets say he was, are those individual franchises comfortable enough to take someone that wouldnā€™t play for 2-3 years? and if both of those arenā€™t good enough, on top of the the Russia factor which all 3 together make perfect sense why he wouldnā€™t be selected or why he was passed up on.

Now, for the Flyers, when MTL made their decision with Reinbacher, they had a decision to make. Michkov met with them multiple time (legally in secret to) and had from what i understand a very, very good time together. Michkov was convinced, if not already, this was his choice. If he was passed by Philly heā€™d go to WSH which really iā€™m sure he was ok with either way.

For the Flyersā€¦. considering everything ALL of us have been through the last 11 or so years, the chuck fletcher era, the lack of identity, the lack of a star, elite goal scorerā€¦ why in gods name would they not take a risk and pick a potential franchise players who any other draft and minus the Russia factor would hands down go #1, or #2.

The Flyers were given an opportunity and are taking a risk to fulfill a franchise desperate need in an elite goal scorer. This is it, biggest pick since Eric Lindros aquisitionā€¦ Potentially franchise altering player that is elite skill wise no matter what you say. They have to. They literally have to.

Final point going off of thatā€¦ it comes down to a 50/50 scenario, he comes here and plays in 2-3 years, or he doesnā€™t. Plain and simpleā€¦ thatā€™s it. If he comes, all of this debate is left in the past. If he doesnā€™t, itā€™s a shame and the debate was rightfully deserved. Either way, the entire situation is out of our control, and being in the rebuild situation we are that lines up with Michkov coming here, Cutters development / debut, and the team rebuild involving cleaning up Fletchers mess, dumping cap, gaining assetsā€¦. thereā€™s literally no reason not to take this risk.

Danny has done a fantastic job so far, and I trust he and Jonesy are probably thinking similarly, itā€™s a pick you cannot pass up on. 50/50, heā€™s either here or heā€™s not. An elite player falls into your lap that late due to many many variables effecting a 50/50 outcome of whether he comes here or not.

You HAVE to take it, for the sake of the franchise.

Hope you made it this far.

Tyrone: IF he never makes it over here, then he never makes it over here. You know the answer to the question, we all do. itā€™s a 50/50. My point is that if he DOESNT make it here, we took a much needed risk for the sake of the franchise, an elite player sitting in our lap, and unfortunately the geopolitical climate interfered.

Considering the franchise state the last 11 years, and frankly longer without success, there is ZERO reason to not take the puck. There is NOTHING left to loseā€¦ we are already in a complete rebuild AND our draft this year was very successful skill wise outside of Michkov himself. It is literally a no brainer. High risk, high reward my friend. They HAVE to.

Reporter: ā€œWhen do you expect to be here, playing in the NHL?ā€
    Michkov: ā€œVery soonā€ and smiles

He wants to be here, he made that very clear.

ā€œPhiladelphia has not won stanley cup in long time. That is also my dream. I am comingā€ – Matvei Michkov

If you hear any quote close to that in a player with confidence, you know you at least took a risk in a prospect who is determined to play professionally, AND bring a stanley cup to this city which has the 2nd longest drought in NHL history.

Again, thereā€™s is literally no reason in our current state to not take this player.

I hope it works out, I think it will, have faith, go Flyers.

  2. Flyers gotta find a way to smuggled the kid out of RussiašŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  3. Letā€™s be honest without the war in Ukraine which isnā€™t his fault, and the contract he signed he likely goes second overall. It wasnā€™t very long ago he was pushing Bedard to go first overall. Plus the Fedotov situation likely scared a lot of teams.

  4. Watch the first 30 seconds of the show I dunno what this idiot Tyrone is even saying… He literally is showing how pathetic his knowledge on hockey is! Get him off the show immediately. Michkov isn't good cause he was drafted 7th overall and apparently he's never gonna come over???šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Get this fucking wannabe chuck berry off the show ASAP!!! Don't even have a fucking clue about anything going on in the NHL one quick Google search and you can see everything he pointed out is fucking wrong and insane!!! Fucking Dohnut šŸ˜‚šŸ‘

  5. Bro, what's going on in Russia? Let's look at what has been happening in the US since the end of World War II: the US has attacked 37 countries and killed more than 20 million people since 1945. And what, is something wrong with you? Well, as for freedom of speech, democracy, unconventional values, aggressive foreign policy – yes, you have a problem with this. But nothing, you live after all. šŸ™‚ I remind you that the toughest sanctions have been imposed against Russia, and we have all the necessary goods on the shelves, there is a surplus in the state budget and more than half of the countries and the world's population support Russia. We are doing well, don't worry. šŸ˜‰

  6. I'm a Devils fan but I like your show. The reality is that when you're in the position the Flyers are in as a franchise they had to take a risk to get a high end player. The Flyers need a player like Michkov in the worst way and they are gonna be bad for the next 3 years anyway. You can't say "The Flyers need a star player" and then when they draft one you complain about the risk. In order to get a star player at #7 you're gonna have to take some form of risk. I also think that teams like Anaheim and Columbus felt that Carlsson and Fantilli were close enough to Michkov's skillset where the risk to reward ratio wasn't worth it, plus those guys play Center whereas Michkov plays wing and that's a more important position. NHL GM's also have a tendency to be very risk averse and many of them would rather make safe decisions that they know won't cost them their job rather than make decisions that could get them fired but could also bring their team a Cup. When the Eagles won the Superbowl Doug Pederson took a major risk going for it on 4th down. But as Kelce said in his speech "He wasn't trying to be mediocre, he was going for a Super Bowl".

There's plenty of risk if you pass on him too. If they had passed on him he would have gotten scooped up by Washington and would be in the same division. It's not like the next 3 picks were all teams in the West. Do you really want him to torture your team for 10-15 years the way Ovechkin did? Because people are saying he's the best Russian prospect since Ovie.

  7. I think a point was missed. It takes a lot of difficultly and luck to get a player with a ceiling that high. A team can gather good players each draft and assemble an NHL lineup. The flyers have a good amount of those players with owen tippett, morgan frost, joel farabee, tyson forester, travis konecny, and more. Although this draft had 2 of those level players most don't have 1. It would not be good if things don't work out but we will be making many more picks in the next couple years and hopefully getting more good players. If a team wants to be great they have to be willing to take risks. That is the difference between good teams and great teams.

  8. Ant Sanfillippo called you OUT BIGTIME AND YOUR SHOW. " QUOTE. I LISTENED TO 97.5 AFTERNOON SHOW AND TYRONE JOHNSON PUSH HIS NARRATIVE ABOUT MICHKOV AND I COULDN'T BELIEVE Hunter Brody who knows the sport just sat their and didn't text me or call and ask me to come on show. To think Flyers who shutdown Voorhees facility last Friday for Michkov to spend the day here would just draft him not knowing he's planning to come to Philadelphia. And 2nd, Why Philadelphia? It's a Sanctuary city! Come on Brodes!! Stop letting this bullshit happen. Your the star of the show not Tyrone Johnson.

  9. Tyrone needs to do his homework the flyers clearly researched also talked to him michkov clearly said he wants to come here obviously cant control russia but you need to take this risk for a franchise player

  10. I just run into your show, woww i love it am not a big fan off Russian player's sorry i take a Canadian or American player over a Russian

  11. Some of yall that stupid. There is a war going on between Ukraine and the Russians, yall been listening to Fox news, dummies?

  12. Read the story about his father. His father wanted him out of KHL contract immediately. He was found dead at some pond in the middle of the night. They killed his father for sure. I dont understand his whole family is in the states for draft just defect. Tyrone your opinions about cause a guy was drafted as why there good is so ridiculous. Micheal Jordan was drafted 3 so he wasnt the best player. He met with Flyers twice he didnt do that with any other teams

  13. The debate about Michkov is their is no debate, none, zero…. This kid was an absolute steal and if you can't see that then you're blind, he is a generational talent who should've gone in the top 3 quite possibly number 1. He falls to the Flyers at 7 this was an absolute gift to Philadelphia from the Hockey Gods, I've wanted this pick from the moment I heard about him and the things he was doing in the KHL which is the second best professional league in the world.

I get that people see this as a real risky gamble, and I understand those concerns, the info on this kid is minimal and the situation in Russia is obviously the factor, but lets not kid ourselves here the Flyers did their homework on him they had a scout on site in Russia, they brought him into Philadelphia like you all mentioned and they again met with him in Nashville. I love the move and I am beyond excited to see this kid play for the Flyers be it one year, two or three years… Michkov fell into their laps, again he was a gift and thankfully they didn't pass up on it.

Had they passed him up, well… then he falls to the Capitals and you have to deal with him torching you 3-4 times a year for the next 10-15yrs, I'm glad for once they took a chance on the "risky" pick.

I'm not too worried about the risk aspect he came over along with his family, met with the team as well as participated in the draft, had he not been that interested in playing in the NHL I don't think he would have wasted time and money coming over. I also grow less worrisome the more that comes out about him and his apparent very, very short list of teams inside the top 10 he'd actually play for, he wanted to come here and play in this market for this city. I think he'll be here in less than three years, I'll even go ahead and say he might even be here next summer when camp opens up and be on the opening night Roster in October.

Oh a heads up for the hockey fans out there, keep on eye on the name Ivan Demidov, he's 17 and plays for SKA St. Petersburg (same system as Michkov) at the Jr level, 50pts in 38 games this past season. I expect him to be inside the top 5 where I suspect the Flyers will be picking next season.

  14. Cannot stand Tyrone I have no clue how you can even do a show with him. Heā€™s such a casual doesnā€™t ever listen to anyone but himself. Crew would be so much better off w out him interrupting and being rude to everyone else

  15. Donā€™t get why you goes wonā€™t mention players like kaprizov kucherov kuznetzov panarin etc itā€™s not that crazy to expect him to come over especially when you compare his situation to laprizovs
