Blue-liner Fleury plays waiting game in Laval | Bonus HI/O

In this bonus episode, our panelists — Montreal Gazette columnist Stu Cowan, CBC Daybreak Montreal’s Jessica Rusnak and former Canadiens defenceman and NHL assistant coach Rick Green — along with host Julian McKenzie discuss Laval Rocket’s Cale Fleury and the Habs’ defence corps.

  1. Saw some really lousy plays in last nights game against Calgary, some good ones too, but I'm really worried now with where this team is heading 🙁

  2. I know this discussion is about this player Cale Fleury, but I'm going to say this about Chariot because he got injured due to fighting and he's out for a while, he needs to fight less because lately he's been fighting a lot like he's an enforcer and he's on a team that really needs his services defensively and on the pk, that's why he's playing with Weber on the first pairing unit a lot, even as tough as Weber is he hadn't had a fight all season long I believe mainly because of his role on the team it's too significant, the Canadiens don't have an enforcer I realize too but in today's NHL they don't believe in having a player who is just there to just fight anymore, so for someone that could play hockey just enough have to become an enforcer to some degree for the Canadiens, the habs actually tried to get a player like Simmonds but he went to play for Toronto instead, there's enough enforcers on the market I'm assuming but like I said before in today's NHL they want enforcers who could play hockey enough.

But as of right now, they don't need to really rush Cale Fleury in no doubt because he's their depth defenseman in case someone gets seriously injured or if someone is just not playing well consistently then they may go to him but as of right now they don't really need to put him in there.

  3. I believe Fleury should get a shot. I don't think Mete has what it takes. He is to easy to take the puck off. Fleury gives out lots of clean hits and moves the puck well. Weber seems to be slowing down a bit this year also. Tough schedule catching up to some players.(Nick S.)

  4. Bergevin: enough with the internal changes. You gotta liquidate the thousands of picks and prospects so the team can win NOW. This team isn’t making the playoffs the way it is.

  5. I agree with the panel. But I m challenging the panel ,if you truly love this organization, to help put an end to writers such as Eric Engles. Now he wrote an article and has wrote many more pumping up Danault as if he's so important to the Habs, this abuse of influencing Habs organization and Habs fans is killing this team and is why its been in disarray for 20 plus years . It cleary show s he knows nothing about the game ,he may be good writer ,but know s nothing about sports . I don't know if its wealth or politics that got him writing for sports net ,hes using his position to influence the Habs. And its killing the organization and I think its what is killing the Habs from being a successful organization once again. Time to only accept performance at top level and make those accountable, and clean house of the poison and we know let's complete the job were close need to gell but need one to 2 goal scorers.

  6. MB should trade for Ekholm.
We have no one ☝️ to play with Weber., Ekholm has played with Weber in Nash.
    Mete cant cut it.
    Chariot either
Petry/Ed is only great thing going on in D.
Ramonov and Fleury would be ideal
    , Kulak inconsistent
    My offer would be
    1st2021
    Mete,,Tatar.
We can score , they need that top2/4 Dman and right now.
They have no confidence, that D help would have better results on D coverage and puck out quicker .
Maybe even add Arvedsin., great C , wins draws 200ft game.
    What you think 🤔

  7. Why in the world would Bergevin keep a pylon like Edmunson around. Bring Fleury in and play him – give the kid a chance. The reason being is that the Habs are going no where this year. They have far too many passengers and not enough players who are putting their heart and soul into like Gallagher. Armia is going through the motions out there. He is a big body and should play as such. Bergevin has to go, – come on Mr Molson, what has he done since he has been there – it is the same old, same old. 1993 is a long time ago and we are getting very impatient.

  8. At this point, It would be hard to convince me that a blind concussed Fleury would be more of a liability than the captain…
Fleury should have been part of the rotation since day one. Failing that, he should be crushing in in Laval.
