The Vegas Golden Knights beat the Florida Panthers in game 5 and win themselves the 2023 Stanley Cup which wraps up this NHL season. We have some feel-good stories with guys like Jack Eichel, the original 6 Golden Knights players with guys like Jonathan Marchessault, Rielly Smith and Shea Theodore….. and in addition to the I wanted to talk about Phil Kessel! Congrats Golden Knights on the win!!!

  1. No talk about Quick being a three time Cup winner and Martinez handing it off to him? Go Kings Go!

  2. Maybe to help soften your saltiness, I'll give you a different perspective that maybe would help you be happy for some VGK fans.

I'm 35 and a 5th generation born and raised Southern Nevadan (about as rare as it gets around here.)
Growing up I never had ties to any specific teams…nor did most of my Vegas born friends growing up.
You had to pick teams to like, and most picked winners. Bulls, Lakers, Yankees, Cowboys (90's of course)
But at the end of the day you have no real ties.
My dad never really watched sports for this reason. He liked players, but no real ties or fandom. We did grow up watching UNLV basketball and that was about as close as we got to a pro team.
We also went to plenty of Las Vegas Thunder and Wrangler hockey games growing up….but lets be real about the difference in excitement for lower level pro sports.

VGK is a Vegas Born franchise and it has brought something to this city like I've never seen. You can't be at a stoplight and not see a VGK sticker or license plate. Literally everyone here is a diehard.

So I know it sucks to be a fan of a team that hasn't won it like the Canucks, but I think it's awesome that you have had generations of family and friends that have been through the ups and downs of being a sports fan together and creating those timeless bonds. Your whole life you've probably had amazing memories watching the Canucks play, while also having some serious let downs.
That is something most Vegas kids have not xperienced. It took until my 30's to have those experiences. Something to truly get behind. I've never seen my dad be a fan of anything like this ever before. Now he watches every game. Listens to NHL radio daily. Is fully invested financially and emotionally in supporting this team. It's like he has 65 years of fandom bottling up in him and he's finally able to release it.

So to some, 6 years is too soon and we don't deserve it. But to guys like me, this couldn't have come any sooner.

This wasn't just 6 years. It's been decades. We just finally have a team to actually root for.

  3. I think the issue isn't that they are newer to the league. The issue a lot of hockey fans have is the way they treated some of their top players i.e. fluery.

  4. I don't like that Vegas won a cup so soon, but I really wanted them to beat Florida. Vegas didn't play dirty. They stayed out of the extra curricular garbage and Florida has several dirty players who seem to want to injure people and take them out of the series. I like rough hockey, but not dirty hockey.

  5. Vegas played fast, skilled, physical and disciplined hockey, and they did it consistently. That's why they won.

  6. Well done! Delighted! I'm an Edmonton native and an Oilers fan (obviously) but I've always liked Las Vegas and Nevada and was pulling for the Knights since day 1. Not when they're playing the Oilers mind you, but they're right there as my solid #2 the rest of the time.

  7. The best goaltending won once again. Bobrovsky fell back to Earth in this series and Adin Hill stayed hot. Florida got bitten in the ass by their indiscipline.

  8. I wasnt cheering for Vegas at any point during their run this year. However, im happy they won the cup, its a likeable group they had this year. Collection of unwanted toys all around.

  9. SWEET MARCHIE & SMITTY PAYING BACK FLORIDA FOR GIVING THEM AWAY FOR NOTHING. BRUCE LIFTING THE CUP WHILE BRUINS TURNED ON HIM AND EXCHANDED STICKS FOR GOLF CLUBS.

  10. Odd that the Canuck's recipe of drafting Swedes and turning snipers into back checkers hasn't panned out yet.

  11. It was pure joy watching the Vegas Knights. This is what teamwork is all about. I’m very happy for them and their fans. Good job guys. I can’t say enough 😁

  12. The NY Rangers will never win the Stanley Cup…..a fish stinks from the head….. congratulations to Vegas 🎉💪👌💰🤙👏🏒🏒🏒

  13. 🤔Where did you get the idea Vegas winning the Cup is a "feel good story"?😒
When you are afforded the unprecedented expansion draft/robbery the way Vegas was …… 🤫
and then the 2017 Jr. draft with 12 picks, 3 in the first round, 2 in the 2nd round…..🤯
There is a definite 🐟🐟 odor in the NHL….🤦‍♂😢

    my OPINION without prejudice 🦂🥂

  14. I was pulling for Florida, but the Knights deserved it, and I'm happy for them. Never would have predicted that final score! Crazy. I'm also a Canucks fan, so I'll continue to keep looking forward to the next season. 😂

  15. I believe Cassidy started the OG misfits too. He usually starts his 4th line. Nice touch.

  16. Personally, whatever "positives" one can extract from this Vegas story, is more than offset by the sadness I feel for the fans in cities that have waited decades for a championship that may never come in their lifetime (i.e. Buffalo, Vancouver, etc.). This is even more magnified when we are talking about small market cities or Canadian cities, where their major league sports team is such an integral part. To any one with influence in the NHL who is reading this, please do something to give us an even better 'feel good' story for next year and the years to follow.

  17. Pietrangelo celebrating on the ice with his daughter who at thanksgiving they didn’t know she could walk or talk again after an infection on her brain

  18. I have said for years you need a team to win, I’m an oilers fan for so long I don’t know who else to cheer for…….3 players above 100 points and no cup, mcdavid and no cup! Why are Edmonton fans shocked, playoffs are a whole other animal and Edmonton is just not there as a whole team, Vegas has no players above a 100 points, but they all played for each other 110%, even their goalie was just thrown in at the end of the season and ended up playing well, a good cohesive team has contagious effort and skill oozing from its core.

  19. uh…that is NevADDuh. Damn…STILL can't get any respect and you start off with saying the name of our state, wrong. You know what..Here is a HUGE middle finger to ALL of you who gave us no respect. Well, there ya go Karens…

  20. Also Kessel was huge for the guys in the locker room during the playoffs, even though he didn’t play

  21. If you think this is good for the league, you're nuts. Every winner will have feel good stories. A team winning the SC 6 years out from expansion in a cap league with a 3rd string goalie is embarrassing for the sport.

  22. It’s an amazing story. Well deserved. This is nhl hockey.
    It’s like no other sport.
    It’s truth personified.
However, beyond the bruins , the refs really fd up the playoffs when it came to Florida. Much like Tampa Florida was given a pass every game and it’s why they won.
Until the final. Then the refs finally did their job and look what happened. 8 goals plus an empty netter on Bob. 9.
    4 misconducts on tcatchuk
Goudas and Bennet in the box left and right It made them all change and refs didn’t call fake penalties on Vegas to help out like they did every other series for Florida. Aswell as goals. And Non calls Reilys goal in Toronto.
I did see the refs whistle the play dead for no reason in the 5th game I’ll have to check it again. Pretty sure it was helping Bob.
The announcers called it out. No reason to blow.

  23. As a Vegas fan and local , the Knights united the city right after the mass shooting in 2017. That’s why there’s lot of love for the team. The first Vegas pro team.

  24. Vegas had higher shooting percentage in game 5 than Nuggets had from three in their game 5 clincher. That is a crazy stat!

  25. I moved to vegas in 99. I went 18 years without having any teams I could root for or go see live. For me, this was 24 years in the making not 6. I don’t understand why people think this town just showed up when the knights were born. We’ve suffered without sports while the rest of you got to cheer your teams on.
