Today we’re referring to an article from The Athletic written by Max Bultman, highlighting the Detroit Red Wings and options they have for a 2nd line centre.

In this video, the candidates discussed are Colorado Avalanche centre Tyson Jost, and Toronto Maple Leafs centre Alex Kerfoot, whose discussions insinuate a trade of some sort. We’ll also be discussing the Nashville Predators’ Kyle Turris, who, under the conditions of a potential buyout, could be a free agency target for Detroit.

  1. Honestly, I really don’t want to trade or sign an UFA for the 2C. I’d rather give Rasmussen or Veleno a chance, or maybe draft Rossi and see how that goes. If those options don’t work out, let Filppula continue there. It’s not like we’re trying build a playoff team quite yet. We should be focusing on developing the talent we have.

  2. Ok, Keerfot for 1st round(4th) pick this year. Will they do it?

  3. Honestly I don’t see the Red Wings getting good for a very long time. And that’s ok because of all these cups they had recently. Look at them and you will see what the pingouins are going to look like in the near future.

  4. yzerman isnt going to give up a prospect or a draft pick to get a 2c. he is going to patiently draft, develop and build the wings back into a consistent competitor just like he did with tampa bay. he isnt going to stretch in free agency either with a flat cap. he can use the cap space detroit bought by suffering thru last year as a tool as valuable as a draft pick to get more assets. to be honest in a perfect world larkin would be 2c and we would have someone better to be 1c.

  5. Rangers are in need of a 2C….I like Strome…but he is prob going to command $5mil/yr. In order for them to keep building, they will need to make savvy trades. Kerfoot would be perfect. If he was 2C in New York, he would have Lafreniere, Panarin, Kakko potentially on his wings. How about this for Toronto…
    Rangers trade :
Georgiev, Rykov, Andersson and 2020 3rd
    Toronto trade :
    Kerfoot, Engvall and 2021 2nd
Toronto shaves $5mil off the cap, grabs a future/current young goaltender…a Dman on the verge of the NHL….a former top 10 pic in need of a.scenery change and a pick.
    I feel it's a pretty fair deal.
For Detroit, Jost seems like a good target. Still young and can grow with the team.
    Maybe a decent prospect and a mid-round pick 3rd or 4th)

  6. Since when Kerfoot is considered a 2nd line center? I like his speed and he has some interesting potential, but lets be honest here, unless he suddenly have a breakthrough, he was drafted in the fifth round 150# overall, which I agree doesn’t mean much considered all the great players that were drafted late.

But, so far his best season is 43 points and he’s 26 years old. He seems more like a today’s NHL 3rd liner than anything else. Would he be better than what the wings actually have?! That’s for sure, but I consider him like Danault with the Montreal Canadiens, a good center that can fill the spot in your top 6, but in the long term you won’t be a powerhouse offensively unless you have some of the best wings in the league.

  7. Maybe Nashville doesn't buy Turris out but instead we take the contract off their hands and they put in a sweetener. To me that would be more ideal because we'd be gaining assets instead of losing them. Nashville is actually cap-strapped despite them being not good.

  8. They need someone better than Kerfoot or Jost. Kerfoot is a 3rd line center. That's why Colorado traded him for Kadri. They wanted a 2nd line center and Kerfoot wasn't able to fill that role.

  9. Not at all interested. Build the team through the draft and occasionally from UFA's when they make sense. Trading prospects is what Holland did the last decade. look where it got us.

Screw that. Keep the picks, draft smart and build for the long haul. It's not like we're cup contenders.

  10. I don't think the wings should make any trades. Build through the draft and maybe pick up a few guys here and there in free agency without breaking the bank. The only trades I'd be alright with are trading for one of the CBJ or PITT goalies since goalies take forever to develop.

  11. As an avid Avs fan, neither of these guys should be on a second line ever. What would I want in return for Jost? Literally anything, I'm hoping he's who Seattle picks in the expansion draft right now

  12. Kerfoot is barley a third line center , not a second line for sure . Poor Detroit has had some bad luck in the last few years , let’s not do that to them.

  13. I think the wings move Glendenning + picks to Toronto for their 15th overall if Askarov or Jarvis are available.

  14. So Detroit gets jobbed at the draft lottery and now they are a salary dumping ground. Bettman now needs a favor from Detroit to save certain teams salary cap crunch. Yzerman should make cheap trades without sacrificing prospects he is trying to gather.
Jost is 2 years younger and half the salary than Kefoot @ $3.5mil until 2022-23with a M-NTC (113 career points) really leveled off after his stay in COL.

  15. Detroit finally has cap money to be buyers while toronto, tampa, boston and other teams need to get rid of those overpaid players… no one is talking about the red wings.. But they will next season.. LGRW!!!

  16. I just never want to see that draft list again. I'm pretty sure 2016 was the pick we traded to get datsyuk off the books but in hindsight it would have been worth blowing up the roster right there to get Chychrun would put us much further along in our rebuild. Cholowski looking like a bust any how. Effing Ken Holland.

  17. Fabbri is a career center outside of his time in St. Louis he should be the second center

  18. First line bert, Larkin, mantha second zadina, fabbri, probably Ehn or Erne

  19. lol Kerfoot as 2C? I am starting to think that the Leafs are sending out these type of stories to create an inflated view of their assets (including Andersen).

  20. Kerfoot also broke his jaw this year, his first games back he was playing scared. give him a full season with robertson and he'll put up 40-50 points. I dont know how the leafs will fill 3 C, Kerfoots contract is good.

  21. There's a decent crop of players on free agency. A lot of clubs with problems with salary cap. Wings has a lot of pieces to make trades and so on. There's no excuse for Yzerman to deploy the same shit and unwatchable team of the last season and he need to put together a decent second line and a defense that resembles to a professional team. Yes, Red Wings are being force into a long rebuild with no luck at all in the drafts and will not fight for playoffs next season. But the supporters can only get so much of what was that thing that played last season. At some point this will seriously damage the brand and the organization will take a hit financially.

  22. Detroit can draft Marco Rossi. Also, Detroit currently have in their organization Dylan Larkin, Joe Veleno, Michael Rasmussen and Elmer Soderblom.

  23. Whoever creates this post needs to stop analyzing hockey…. they have zero clue…. his breakdown on players are completely out to lunch…

  24. Many poeple who have not seen Kerfoot as Avs may misjudge his skill
Sweet hands and makes those around him better
    Could have more grit
But maybe a fit in Detroit
Im high plus side for Kerfoot future as avs FAN and seeing every game he has played
Maybe a 3rd line center with upside skill
    Not blindingly fast
    Has decent mental hockey IQ
