Two sources now. Kinda shocking he’s just walking away from that much guaranteed money. Weird considering how supportive Steve still was of him in the presser.

Honestly, it just did not work out for him in Detroit, and I’m ok with that.
I wish him the best of luck in the future and hope that he finds a good home in the NHL in the near future! Fill those nets from somewhere else!

Kind of glad I don’t have to continue thinking he might do something for the Wings even when he was given plenty of opportunities playing top line minutes. Hope it works out for him somewhere but nobody claiming him on waivers really showed what the league thinks about him and shows us fans maybe thought too highly of him

It’s a bummer to see Zadina leave, but I can respect what he’s doing here. Trying to actually prove himself as a real NHLer on a cheap contract rather than make easy money bouncing in-and-out of the lineup. It sure is a gamble though.

He’ll probably have to accept a try-out with another team before being offered a contract.

Courage? Seems more like stupidity to me. He could always prove himself in the AHL with hard work and filling the opponents nets with pucks, while making millions. Hopefully it works out for him and we get ADB with the extra cap space.

I’m relieved to be done getting downvoted for saying he was a Holland draft mistake and wasn’t going to make it.

  9. DeBrincat signing incoming. Wings and lions looking competent for the first time in a long time

Hope someone in the West picks him up. I’m afraid of him going to an East or Atlantic team and finding his stride and lighting it up, though I think it’s unlikely

    Just bonkers to me.

Make $4.5 million and prove to yourself and the team that drafted you that you’re not a bum

    or

Make league minimum and prove to yourself and a new team that will probably stick you in the AHL anyway

Wish he would have worked out in Detroit.

I am definitely not celebrating his exit. It’s just as likely that he fizzles out of the league as it is he establishes himself as a legit NHLer for another team.

In either case, the player wants out, and I respect Yzerman for honoring his wishes. I just don’t love the idea of losing a young, still developing asset in the middle of a rebuild for absolutely nothing.

I guess courage is the proper word. IMO – he’s a bust. Unwillingness to report to the AHL appears to be the final straw and it should be. Not sure why that league is beneath him..the net is the same size and you still have to hit it

Passing on Quinn Hughes to me is the worst decision the Wings have made in the last 30 years. Sure Hindsight is 20/20 with the draft but even casual fans knew Hughes was going to be elite. Wingers are a dime a dozen.

Good luck Zadina and thanks for the cap space!

  16. Jeez-essFC

He already knows every team passed on him at his current salary. Does he think a team now is going to suddenly want him and pay him more? Best bet would have been to tear it up in the AHL and get have another team trade for him on his current deal.

  17. EmergencyAbalone2393

Let’s pretend this is the correct move by Zadina. Is there possibly something about Blashill and now Lalonde’a system that is somehow inhibiting Zadina?

  18. HenlickZetterbark

Imagine walking away from $5 Mill because you are upset you can’t perform Dominic Kubalik

  19. Shotokanguy

Damn, I hate that it’s ending this way. I really wanted to see one more season, after injuries derailed last year. The effort was always there. He could have been rewarded.

  20. Maybe_Im_Confused

I was baffled by the 3 year contract. I was hoping only for 1 year, *maybe* 2 years, for him to “prove it”.

  21. jackstalke

Peace out dude. This is a mistake on hs part, but not one that bothers me.

  22. Never thought I’d see the day where players don’t want to play for this organization.
