Even as an Oilers fan, I can’t hate the Knights as much as I should. My interest in hockey started when the Knights entered the playoffs back in 2018. Back then, at least 58 people died from the Las Vegas shooting and at least one of the victims is from Edmonton. Seeing the Knights play for those fallen victims inspired me. At that time, even some Oilers fans were rooting for the Knights. My friend is a Knights fan and has recently become a father and I’m honestly happy for him. I will always stay loyal to my Oilers and I know they will win the Cup soon. When Skinner is at his Prime, we will be more dangerous, but the Knights still made me have a soft spot for them.
Not good enough five-on-five. Too many defensive mistakes. Overreliance on McDavid, Draisaitl, and the power play. Vegas exposed the Oilers' weaknesses. Florida vs. Vegas final. Rooting for Florida. Hope Tkachuk kicks their butts. Probably the only time I'll ever cheer for Tkachuk. Hard to believe Tkachuk could win a cup before McDavid. Almost a year to wait until the playoffs start again. Long, long time. Snowstorms. Brutal cold. Good times. Bad times. We'll get over this. We will won't we? Counting on Patrick to keep the videos coming to help make summer go by quickly. Love your stuff dude!
Oilers should have started with Campbell. You should never play a goalie (Skinner) out of some weird personal loyalty to them. You should always play the goalie who's been performing well in the recent to mid-range past. Skinner's been under a lot of pressure, is still a new goalie, and had been pulled three times during these playoffs before game 6. They should have started with Campbell in game 6 who was performing better in these playoffs — I've had this sense since game 5. Isn't that the whole point of having two good goalies? Bad coaching.
Oilers go 6-6 in this year's playoffs after going 8-8 in last year's playoffs. Back to back playoff runs where their win/loss ratio is even when it's all said and done for them.
Definitely will be interesting to see what they plan to do at the draft and during Free Agency. The only one on the main roster I see potentially retiring is Derek Ryan at age 36. Ryan McLeod and Klim Kostin I believe will be re-signed, Evan Bouchard is due his big contract, Foegele is a buyout option, Yamamoto I think has to be traded, the team has to find one more player to round out the Top 6. Do any of their prospects take that next step before the start of next season? Who knows? Brad Malone (aged 33) and Jason Demers (34) are the most likely after Ryan to call it quits and hang up the skates, maybe Koekkoek (29) as well. They have 14 out of 22 non-roster players signed for next year, so if they want to stay under the salary cap, they may have to fill out the roster with AHL players. All the LTIR money and some of the dead cap will come off the books. Janmark, Shore, and maybe Bjugstad all walk and look to sign elsewhere instead of re-signing with the Oilers.
The way I see it, Campbell should have gotten one, maybe two starts in both series to give Skinner a bit of a mental breather
Love all the videos you do and your grate input on the game and the Oilers. Its going to be a long summer 😢 and they need to move some players to in prove are D core . One other thing I wasn't a fan of woody with his match ups this series, plus playing 97 and 29 way to much
Thank you for your content this season Patrick! Really appreciate your videos and live streams. See you next year! Have a great summer. Let's go Oilers!!!
Glad I found your channel this year. It really helps an east coast fan feel connected to the rest of the Oilers fan base. Plus your videos are great. Looking forward to my next year. GO OILERS GO!
I will leave my thoughts here since I spent most of my youtube Oilers time.on your channel besides the Oilers channel itself for pregame/postgame videos.
Im really disappointed. I would be more mad if i had to blame the refs or for sure any single player. But Vegas was better down the stretch.
I think u have to play Campbell that last game If u dont as a coach u regret it. Skinner got pulled like 4 times in 12 games. His GAA is around 4.0 and Saves was like 87%. I know he bounced back but Campbell did play well enough to deserve a chance to start 1 game. Heck at this point, I wish we had Mike Smith in there.
As far as a few individual players. The reason why we let Eberle go was his lousy performance in the 2017 playoffs. And look what hes doing. 2 goals 3 points in a game 6. So i dont want to get overdone like most oiler fans making tush decisions. I will.point out these questionmarks.
Yamamoto replaces Ryan on that line. We need a bigger right handed RW on the 2nd line. I love the way yamamoto competes but im afraid hes just a 3rd or 4th liner. Anykne can get 22 goals on Mcdavids line like the year before. Maroon had 27.
Its gonna be hard to trade Nurse. I think thats the only signed olayer i would trade. Kane is just too much of a liability. He had more penalties then goals in this series.
Nuge 1 goal Mcleod 0 goals Kane 3 Yamamoto 2
We needed more from them.
Skinner needs more practice. His puck work isnt strong with his shot around the glass. It rarely makes it out. Also his holding the puck for faceoffs. Led to the 4th goal in game 5 that was crucial. You need to move the puck..nobody wants faceooffs in your own zone when its 1 goal game. Move it. Also he needs to be better with his stick in close. Too many times early on pucks for their way in close because he compacts himself trying to stay strong but lets goals lose on the sides.
Its just really unfortunate we had to face Vegas. We had rhe toughest road. Kings and Vegas and even seattle all proved themselves much better and even more physical then east teams. The west is more physical. And it seems it will get more so as these rivalries get more. And calgary and vancouver will be better next year too.
Last thing i will say is the playoff schedule was weird. And i dont know if it favored anyone but it just wasnt. 3 days off between games then other times every other day off even between travel days. How is seattle game 6 and 5pm and oilers are on motbers day at 7pm on a sunday. Just weird tiems and scheduleboth series' for us.should of flown back to Oilers instead of staying in los angeles and vegas for 4 days. Could of changed game 1 in vegas.
I think we would have won if Broisoit didnt get hurt. I felt more confident against him then a more unknown. We did horrible all year against goalies that were young we didnt know.
Statistics for Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knights May 14th, 2023

Power Play 0/2 0/1

The above stats show a lot. Oilers peppered Hill and he held pretty firm. They more than doubled the hits, the faceoffs were the same, only one PP for the Oilers (killed) and 2 for Vegas (also killed). Oilers had nearly double the number of giveaways, same number of takeaways and exactly half the blocked shots. Not nearly enough blocks.

Sixth Game. Do or Die for the Oilers. They died. Goaltending through the middle 20 of the game was bad with Stu letting in 3 (all by Marchessault so he got a hattie). Campbell came in on relief for the final 20 and, while he only faced 4 shots, he took care of all of them. The Oilers weren't blocking nearly enough shots allowing for the more advanced stats. Ignorning that Hill had a great game backstopping the VGK. When the boys got chances he took care of them. I was unable to watch this game so just going off of stats and whatever I could see by replays.
First, this wasn't a disaster. The Oilers made it to the 2nd round (or further) 2 years in a row. We faced great teams getting there. Time to tweak and adjust. Bouchard is legit. Skinner if okay too but you can't play him night in night out. He's not that type of goalie. He's a tandem. He had many good to great games. He had some stinkers too. It happens, maybe cutting him some slack in his first full year in the NHL might be in order.
Oilers fans, this is the first year in the window. The window remains open. An adjustment here, a tweak here, it will be fine. Have faith. Take care all.
Hey Patrick – impressive coverage whilst you were still at Roger's Place. I've been watching the games and your channel from the UK, but I'm from Edmonton…the only thing worse than the result is having to get up to watch live at 3am!! Keep up the great work!
Not cheering for the GK either. Think hockey is over for me this year, as i usually cheer the team with the most Canadiens which is Vegas unfortunately.
most fans dont understand hockey at all. They think having the best players or having the best record means you are going to win in the playoffs 😂😂 If you think that, you dont understand hockey and you are a babe in the woods. It will be the same next year, and after that and so on. People think the best players and best records will win, and they Never do.
Glad I found this channel earlier this year. I dont have anyone else to talk Oilers with here in WA its all Kraken, etc, etc. You did a good job growing the channel and and looking forward to next season. Been an Oilers fan since i could walk and I am hoping to see them finally get back to the finals next year. Lets hope they fix some back end issues with D and get more help for Cambell/Skinner. I don't think Cambell should be blamed for all his negatives this year. 😉
Oilers have no cap space, and there’s simply nothing major they can do without getting rid of someone major. A lot of their top players have a NMC and they are simply screwed. The only thing they can really do is buyout Campbell and go from there, but will that even be worth it considering they have no picks in the draft worth mentioning. Goaltending has been horrible and skinner is given too much credit. Jack Campbell deserves better, and after he played 118 minutes in the playoffs he had a 961 SV% which is amazing. I have supported this team too much and their organization keeps making dirty decisions, but then again you can’t do anything when defending is horrible aswell. Long story short they don’t have cap space, no defense, no goaltending and they’re not going anywhere. It’s been great, but I live in a state with a better team and it’s time for me to start supporting them over Edmonton ✌️
Edit – Oilers have horrible contracts. Nurse is overpaid and leon is the only player with a reasonable contract. I get mcdavid is the best player in the league, but with the money they’re paying him they can’t add anyone to their team, and he hasn’t won a cup. Crosby made a wise move back in the day to take a smaller contract in order to acquire players and build a team. Oilers have 3 years to make something happen before McDavid’s contract ends, and if they don’t he’s not going to resign. Mcdavid only has a few more years of a decent playoff run in his 20s. Crosby, Gretzky and all these other great players won a cup, or multiple cups, in their 20s. So that shows how important it is to win before you get older in your 30s. Oilers have 3 years to win a cup, and if not then that’s another million year wait to rebuild.
I'm a vegas native (knights fan) and was on the strip for a concert last night (the sisters of mercy) and was watching the game with oilers fans who bought tickets for a potential game 7 on Tuesday and told me they were just gonna gamble their ticket refund money. I hope they atleast win there.
Not going to Campbell in this series that’s on Woodcroft I think Hill was the downfall for Edmonton. Hill started playing like a wall plus Edmonton couldn’t solve Vegas collapsing to the net all Edmontons shots we’re from the outside they couldn’t get anything in the middle. Vegas wasn’t even attacking the D they just collapsed and covered the net. The turning point was game 5 I get Vegas finally figured out how to shut the oilers down and it worked where last series Edmonton figured out how to beat LA in game 5 Vegas figured out how to beat Edmonton. I feel such disappointment because Edmonton had a great opportunity this year all the big fish were gone round one and they folded bad toward the end of this series. Skinner looked very tired in game 5 and 6 the guy was pulled 4 times I think Campbell should have got some time in the Vegas series.
As a VGK Fan living in N. Las Vegas, I know it hurts, thank you for being classy fans, you know you have a great powerful team it was a slugfest series exciting for both fan bases to witness. I do not think the remaining teams we will play are as good nor dangerous as the Oilers. See you next season.
I said before the game that if the Oilers start Skinner, they deserve to lose the series. He let in a bad goal almost immediately. The team got themselves into a 3-2 predicament with Skinner in net, so why keep doing more of the same, while expecting a different result?
Kings fans Are the worst. I was at a regular season knights Oilers game The oilers destroyed us 7-2 and the oiler fan we’re messing with us but never rude and we shook hands after the game.
This sucks 😞 every year same shit its gotta get better i mean come on man we are better than that 2 best players in the world 🌎 Campbell 🍲 should of started that game 6 WTF 😡🤬

Agree, Ref's have looked awful this season, can't leave the game in their hands.
Mine as well trade Campbell…. Draisaitl could be gone within a yr.. Stuck with Nurse and Woodcroft… I’m checking out before the era is over.
