The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to find themselves in a similar position with William Nylander when it comes to contract negotiation and it isn’t a positive one. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti address the latest reports that the Leafs and Nylander remain far apart on cap hit on a new deal. Problem is Nylander's comparison is sitting on the other side of the room. Mitch Marner at 11mil. That is the problem. Marner isn't worth 11mil. However that is the comparison.
It's very simple. You can't afford to pay your second best RW over 10 mill.
Every single player mentioned in this video as a comparable is better.
If Nylander won't budge, trade his ass. He's made it clear that money is all he cares about. He's 1 dimensional, and he doesn't play hard on a consistent basis.

What kind of team could you build with $40 Million in cap space ? That is what the Core 4 makes. You could bring in 7 top players with an average income of $5.7 Million. It would be like Christmas for the GM. Extending any of the 4 just continues the failed Dubas Plan.I am sure that GM Brad has shopped all of them, but other teams do not value the players like Kyle did.

I spent a summer at Stringer hockey school downtown Montreal as a 15 yr old kid… My 5 trainers that summer were Guy Carbonneau, Guy Lafleur, Sergio Momesso, Bob Gainey & Chris Nilan…. I feel very lucky & humbled by this…. and wish I had made the league…. Send Nylander packing and I'll do better for the league minimum! Nylander is too inconsistent for me…..
