Senators Relying Heavily on Young Core for Playoff Hopes in 2023-2024 Season

The Sens were seen as a disappointment, but they did improve and could improve more this season to finally return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

  1. The Sens had a potent offense last year even without Norris. If he's fully healthy this year this team will deliver a few spankings. It's all about whether we can keep the puck out of our net so we don't end up losing loads of high scoring games

  2. I think Grieg moves into the top 6 if debringcat leaves he’s still a rookie but it won’t be as noticeable as pinto last season because he’s on the wing

  3. I think the defence looks great Zub never really got his season started last year it’s a question of goaltending and offence for me like weather or not Brinsky stays and how much Giroux can score at his age

  4. I think with the addition of Korpisalo and re-signing Hamonic, they will be very close IF they don't make it. If I was a betting man, I would give odds that they make it this year. Maybe grab the spot the Leafs will lose this year!?!.

  5. Not gonna do anything with the current coach. What a shame to keep him around when Patrick Roy was rumoured

  6. The Sens will be a playoff team in 2023-24, with or without Debtincat, as long as the injuries are significantly less insane than last year and the goal-tending ends up being decent.

  7. I'm going to say no, for two reasons.
    1. DJ Smith.
    2. Eastern Depth. I don't KNOW Ottawa is better than Boston, Tampa, Toronto, or Florida, and Detroit, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Washington, and Long Island are legitimate threats for the Wildcard.

  8. When you consider that they did recover from that bad start last year and had a shot to make the playoffs near the end of the season, if they don't have a bad start, they should make the playoffs this year. DJ is definitely on a short leash and has to have the team playing at least .500 hockey and improving by the 20 game mark. If they keep DeBrincat or trade him for someone like Travis Konecny or a similar type player, they will definitely make the playoffs.

  9. I feel like it’s going to be a breakout year for the Sens, Korpisalo, and others. Playoff time fellas

  10. As a Sharks fan, I remember just a few short years ago when the world thought Doug Wilson hosed Pierre Dorion in the Karlsson trade.. Literally nobody thought Dorion won that and now the Sens are set for a decade at 1C and 2C.

  11. Sadly we are one injury away from breaking the entire top 9 apart and really messing things yp

  12. Trading for Carter Hart would have been perfect for the Sens. Especially with Philly seemingly being open to moving him. The Korpisalo contract is a real head scratcher…

  13. They need to move Batherson. Yes, pp specialist but his -35 defensive play is a nightmare. Such a liability. Sign Tatar or Sundqvist to replace DeBrincat.

  14. Dont forget we lost Norris and Formenton last year. We would have had a deep top 9 with those 2 in…. Also don't forget we finally got Chychrun so we will see what he can do and where he fits in with all these LD we have (do they make RD anymore? sheesh). Then add a new goalie into the mix! If we stay healthy we have a shot.

  15. 3, 4 or 5 Atlantic teams to make it this year?! The answer to this question will probably tell the story

  16. Ottawa may just barely make the playoffs. Plenty of green players alongside leaders who do not have a built in winning mentality will hamper their progress this year.

  17. Ottawa had a slow start in 21/22 as well I believe I remember dorion doing an interview last summer making a point of starting better. The future looks bright though the sens have a lot of good young players

  18. Do they want Murray back? I'll owe the Sens a favour if they do 😂😂😂

  19. The goalie carousel of last season is probably a blessing in disguise because I can't think of a time we've ever been that deep in nets with so much potential. Giving each goalie the occasional sniff at NHL action will give them the perspective to do what it takes to be a regular.

  20. The key for the Senators is the first couple months of the season. They've had terrible starts over the last number of years and were basically out of it before Christmas.

  21. Losing debrincat is going to suck but the injury bug in the net was the only thing that stopped ottawa from making the playoffs last year. I think they will be better than expected.

  22. Though it looks unlikely, I'd like to see DeBrincat stay. I think Ottawa has better young talent than Detroit. The other rumor has him going to the Islanders, and that would be joining a death march. The Islanders are going nowhere for the next ten years. If he goes to Detroit, that's better than the Islanders. I also think Colkumbus would be a good fit,. but the best fit for him is where he's already at.

  23. Dorian already said Bernard docker is going to be the 6th defensemen and it’s his job to lose. Hamonic will be 7th d man

  24. Great video! I think Batherson deserves more credit, he played very well especially after having to deal with all the terrible things people were saying due to world jr scandal. Having everyone treat you like a monster when you are innocent must of been hard on the head….he intends to come back stronger than last year so Im looking forward to the Sens making the playoffs! Lets go Sens!!!

  25. Pretty much spot on…One note would the loss of Norris for the season 5 games in.. Forcing Stu into the number 1 center role without much experience playing center..Backed up on the second line by a rookie in Pinto..

  26. This team should make the playoffs, they don’t have the depth up front but they have enough talent at the top. The defence is also super talented but I don’t know how it all slots together. It all comes down to goaltending anyway so I guess we’ll see

  27. DeBrincat wanted to play with Norris; maybe we get lucky and they click enough at the start of the year for Cat to want to stick around longer…? one can hope.
